Featured Greece to Buy 18 Rafale Fighters, Four New Frigates to Boost Defense

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced on Saturday that Greece will buy 18 new Rafale aircraft and four frigates to address the defense needs of the country.


The Greek premier, speaking in Thessaloniki, said that the defense of the country will also be boosted through the acquisition of Romeo SH-60 Seahawk helicopters, torpedoes, anti-tank and guided missiles and the modernization of the Hydra-class frigates.


He also announced the hiring of 15,000 new professional recruits and the revitalization of the Greek defense industry.


The Rafale is a French twin-engine, multirole fighter aircraft designed and built by Dassault Aviation.


Equipped with a wide range of weapons, the Rafale is intended to perform air supremacy, interdiction, aerial reconnaissance, ground support, in-depth strike, anti-ship strike and nuclear deterrence missions. It is referred to as an “omnirole” aircraft by Dassault.

When Greece gets delivery of the Rafale, Turkey will have upgraded its own F-16s with ingenuously AESA radars and EW suite. TuAFs F-16s will not be that inferior. In addition, Turkey has the S-400 to counter the Rafale threat as well. Lastly, it is limited how big a difference merely 18 Rafales can do.

So westerns are cashing and fueling issues between different countries. They are doing what they are good at.
Greece economic condition is not hidden from anyone else. Turkey need to play smart. Hit them where it hit them the most.
Greece is cashing the umbrella of EU and French. Another bankruptcy of Greece it will get intresting. Who will bankroll them? Britain is out? End of EU has already started and issues like these will act as a catalyst.
If Greece can go to French then turkey can go to other countries as well. They are basically the gateway to Europe. Alliances are being changed let see what happen. But it's not as simple as most are considering. Their is a lot of bad blood between Turkey and Greece.
Greece need to make them economical stable to compete against Turkey which they are not?
