Albania and Greece did not agree on the issue of maritime borders between the two countries, despite both prime ministers meeting on the sidelines of the European political Community in Prague on Thursday.

In 2009, the two countries agreed to delimitate the continental shelf in the waters between them, but Prime Minister Edi Rama, at the time in opposition, took the matter to the Constitutional Court.

He argued the agreement gave Greece some 225 square kilometres of Albanian waters. The court agreed, and relations became soured between Athens and Tirana. Since Rama took power in 2013, the issue is yet to be resolved, and it was announced in October 2021 that the matter would go to an international tribunal.

Rama said that no consensus was found and the matter would progress to the International Court in The Hague.

“This is a legal process, there are a number of rules, there are a number of procedures, and we will respect the procedures from the beginning to the end because we have to make our position very clear, we have to make it very clear what we intend in this process and that unified attitude required of this court as to what one side intends and what the other side intends, requires its own time. So we don’t have a consensus between the parties”, said Rama.

In 2011, leaked diplomatic cables from the US claimed that Greece blackmailed Albania into accepting an unfavourable deal, using Athens’ veto over EU enlargement. Greece has publicly made similar suggestions over the unresolved Cham issue.

thanks to @dBSPL ..

As you can see @TNT , they think they can get away with it.

. . . . .
stop blackmailing other countries....

stop stealing ther sea...
You're still talking about your country. And nobody buys your narration anymore. The world is waking up. After Britain,France and USA,now Germany and Italy have condemned you. Our foreign minister will be meeting with the Egyptians soon and Egypt will also condemn you.

Apart from that,Greece and Albania can solve the dispute in the International Court. Something that Turkey is too scared to do.

.
If Rama's Albania wants to be act as the Erdogan's Turkey, then will face consequences.

Oh so give fish ppl more sea or face consequences? So much for being civilized nation and democracy and rule of law and UNCLOS and agreements😂.

That's why we can go to the International Court and settle it there, instead of threatening Albania with war like Turkey does with us. Because we are civilized.

That's exactly what Turkey has been doing for decades:

"If you expand your naval borders to 12 miles,we go to war".

"Greek Cypriots should share the profit from their EEZ with Turkish Cypriots or not drill".

"Demilitarize the islands or else..."

Troll is going full troll fest, first stop stealing Albanian sea.

This is the MAP of Greece forcing Albani to accept it, this is litterally stealing. Letters can not describe it.

Againg Greece think they can blackmail and steal sea from Albanians, island story of Greece. Nobody will accept this bs, and then blackmailing countries....

Turkey should sell them Atmaca Coastal defence systems.

In words, Rama has agreed to take the issue to the Hague ICJ, accepting the UNCLOS.
And because he breaks his word, there will be diplomatic consequences.....
Is it......blackmail?
Of course it is, enough with the political games played by some at the expense of geopolitical peace.
In practice, of course, the EEZ agreement with Albania has no geopolitical value for Greece, since it has extended them to 12 nautical miles. its insular coasts and in the middle line that concerns the maritime borders with Albania. The only gain is the communicative one, and nothing else.
