daily sun | Business | Grameenphone ready for 3G services
Countrys leading cellular phone operator Grameenphone has completed all kinds of technical preparation for providing 3G or Third Generation services in the country, said officials.
Weve completed necessary technical upgradation and expecting to start 3G operation immediately after getting license, said Tanveer Mohammad, Chief Technology Officer of Grameenphone.
He said that Grameenphone would switch to 3G services immediately by installing 3G radio card into the Base Transceiver Station (BTS) whenever the telecom regulator handover license to it.
Grameenphone has made technical upgradation of its over 8,000 BTSs across the country through network swapping, which will ensure better network service for the customer, Mohammad added.
The Grameenhone Chief Technology officer informed that they have the preparation to offering 4G or Fourth Generation and Long Term Evolution (LTE) to its customer.
Mohammad said Grameenphone would start the operation of 3G firstly in Dhaka and then other big cities in phases after getting 3G license through proper process. But, all the matters are being depended on the license price.
He hoped that they would provide better services after initiating 3G services compared to others market players.
State-owned mobile operator Teletalk will get a license without participating in the auction, while four local private operators along with the foreign firms will compete for the rest four licenses. BSS
