It's true,it is. But I guess the government will go with the Gowind,which I really loved before I actually realized the Italians have a very good ship to offer. I mean a ship that can implement more stuff and offers more choices. It's like a small frigate in a way.

Gowind is modular, Customize it.

I guess it's because of the manpower. I don't know about the quality,but they sure have A LOT of shipyards.

With China, you get what you pay for. From Ok quality to fine quality everything is available. They're pure business minded people...

I was checking your Navy as well,the other day. It looks nice,but you need heavier armed ships. Of course,you're not going to war with anyone,but...you know. If you're buying ships..

We are potato because we have laughable budget. But, our military officer training quality is good. We follow the British military model and training.

The French are generally hard when it comes to this. I mean,their designs usually require more space and more money.

Imagine,the didn't offer Strales with the FDI HN nor Gowind. They were negative in tech transfer,their SETIS combat system is supposedly very "closed" architecture,they nagged about building the FDI HN and initially the Gowind too in Greece etc.

Imagine,the French don't even have a CIWS on their Gowind and planned for the FDI. We had to ask them put a RAM on our FDI HN and now on the Gowind HN.

Anyway,the thing is the French were the only country that supported us back in 2019-2020. For those who don't know what happened back then,it was when Cyprus wanted to drill for oil and gas and Turks threatened with war,Erdogan started an attempt to send tens of thousands of immigrants,refugees by force in the land borders at Evros and there were frequent incidents between the two Navies and coast guards in the Aegea,ships colliding etc.

The French Total was given fields to look for oil and gas inside the Cypriot EEZ,but the whole thing was postponed.Also when a French Navy frigate tried to search a ship going to Libya,escorted by a Turkish frigate,the Turkish frigate targeted the French one three times. Back then,the war in Libya was going on and there was an embargo on weapons. Apart from all that,Erdogan kept calling Macron various names in speeches and interviews,mocking him.

So,the French decided to support us.

Meanwhile,the Germans were pro-Turkish and didn't say a word,the Italians and Spanish didn't care much,the British were in their own world and the Americans supported us,but not as much as the French.

From what I see,they will probably select the Gowind HN.

To be honest,I wish we could buy both ships. I wish we could buy 3 FCX-30 HN and 2 or 3 Gowind HN. But that would cost a lot of money. The budget is extremely tight. But again,we have to decide the future of the Navy. We have to retire some 9 Kortaener frigates and some 12 FAC (if we retire the Combattante).


What's the FDI HN XL? I read it in some comments online,but I don't know what's it about.

Yea - that population is part of the trigger for the recent Islamophobia. Basically poverty ridden havens for extremism and terrorism because there was inherent racism in French society that was unable to accept other cultures and the people that emigrated there did not acclimate to being French. Otherwise in the late 90s France was the epicenter for Europe’s modern islamic art and culture scene.

The support France has for you guys goes back further and has to do with the business and historical insecurities with Turkey more than anything else.

Yeah! And frankly,we need good ships. Many people say online that the French got enough already. The FDI HN,the Rafale and other stuff. Now it's time to try and have better diplomatic relations with others as well.

If you had asked me last year,I would have said "Are you crazy? I want the Gowind!". But now I see that clearly,the Italians have a lot to offer as well.

Buying french product will bring political benefits to Greece. Else, I would have recommended Italian or German products.

No strales gun system, no mk 41 vls, no CIWS, no open architecture CMS! wtf man? Hopefully french products are reliable and life cycle costs are affordable compared to others...

The French tend to have great quality stuff. But their prices...oh man. It took some 2 years to bargain the price of the FDI and to bring in more countries to offer their designs.

There's a rumor (it's been reported by some Greek defence sites),that the FDI don't have an ECM,don't have IRIST,will be fitted with only 16 Aster-30 when they arrive to Greece and the other 16 missiles and the launchers will be installed in Greece as with the RAM etc etc.

However,the Greek MoD had said they would come with "upgraded countermeasures and a state-of-the-art ECCM".

But still no clear answer. Ptisi mentioned in one of their articles,that the FDI HN contract doesn't mention any IRIST nor Link-16 in the package.

Our military is potato ( thanks to our low budget and too much political interference). One ulsan class will not make any difference. Burma is a military with country.

Hmm lacks sonar. It does have ASW rockets,so maybe they thought torpedos weren't needed. But not even a sonar? How will they find the submarines to hit them without a sonar?
