ISLAMABAD: In a bid to recognize the efforts of overseas Pakistanis, the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development has proposed duty-free import of one hybrid car (upto 3000cc) for Foreign Exchange Remittance Card holders, who remit $100,000 over a period of two years.

The ministry has been mandated to redress the problems of overseas Pakistanis and to formulate policies for their welfare, said the overseas ministry in a notification sent to concerned parties, which include the Ministry of Industries & Production, and the Engineering Development Board.

“In this context, on the direction of Prime Minster’s Delivery Unit, the Prime Minister’s office, this Ministry is in the process of devising a Manual of Privilege for Overseas Pakistanis-2019,” the notification read.

According to the notification, all relevant stakeholders have been requested to furnish the input/proposed privileges to be extended by their organisations and departments.

First only Khaleej Time publish this news. No Local Channel.
Second even if this news is True.
What it mean is Tax Exemption for Rich.
Govt. should learn a difference b/w Want and Reality.
A Country where EURO-2 is a big deal when world has moved to 4-5-6.
First Govt. promote Investment in Automobile Sector bringing in more players then market capacity and now when most of the units are either not in production or full production and Sales has Drop 35%-50%.
They want to shift from Conventional Engine to EV Car.

A logical step would have been promoting small EV Car(City Use/ TAXI) and Public Transport Vehicle in Big City. Built support Setup/Charging Station and slowly & steadily increase & expand.

From where i can get remittance card??

Sounds like a bonus for being rich. Remit $100,000 and get a car imported tax free.

Instead GoP should allow anyone who migrates back to Pakistan to import a car tax free. As long as they stay a minimum 12 months, they get to keep the car tax free, if they reverse their decision and go back within 12 months, they have to pay the tax or export the car back.

You are not following... Khaleej time posted too late. News is out since yesterday, on various local channels such as profit, propakistani, ary and many more

Why hybrid? Only
To promote eco-friendly cars...

You might be right but a simple google search showed on Khaleej Times link.
Even out of all names you mentioned only ARY is a local News Channel. Propakistan type sites copy-paste such type of news.
To promote eco-friendly cars...
And what about existing Fuel Quality? If we can't afford/impose high Grade Fuel how can we import large number of EV Vehicles.

Why not just open up the car and commercial vehicles market and duties are paid on the size of the engines!

Why cannot rules be the same for everyone?

What is the obsession with having such privileges? Who makes up these rules to benefit a small percentile of population?

Lets see which buddies of Xulfi Bukhari avail this scheme/scam.

PMIK wants to promote white remittance rather hawala system. As for your suggestion, not until we get out of FATF greylist. Expect 2020 to go like that till November and this is if we manage to escape the list by earliest next year.

As for the biasness, $100000 equates to around 1.6 crore, not MOST people have the privilege to gather that amount in a whole lifetime.

Come on buddy, didn’t expect such lady-ish comment from you...

So that means, 100% of remmiters are black money holders ? You are no different from those at CAA, Banks, exchanges and FBR who suspect every single person for being a ‘launderer’.

These black money holders are in a very small number. Small but huge sums.
Secondly, inward remittances have WHT applied onneach transaction an overseas Pakistani sends money back. So they are benefiting the economy in huge sums

They are not in small numbers and if we take your assertion that only a small percentile can send 1.6 crore over 2 years and most rely on small amounts then how is that helping them to move from hundi to proper bank channels.

The amount of money stashed outside cannot be done without having a huge army and not just few select men.

And what about the deterrence factor? Who has GoP ever convicted of money laundering that people will be deterred from doing that.

It seems only Miss Ayyan Ali was laundering the money out of Pakistan all alone by herself and rest of them are all spot clean law abiding citixens
