Govt mulls ‘military offensive’ against TTP

Last time PMLN came to the powers, they authorized the military operations against TTP. I hope they authorize the military operation again. There was no way Imran Khan would have authorized military operations against TTP given his pro-stance of TTP in the past. This Indian-funded afghan-based TTP must be eradicated completely.

PTI: Hum Pakistan ko dunya ka behtareen mulk bana rahay hain...

I guess we can cut both some slack, what do you say? ;-)
You could've used Riyasaat-e-Madina tease, but I don't support PTI nor IK :)

I only support him because he should've finished his term, and he is necessary in Pakistan's politics to break the nepotism of two families.

But you seems to get hurt over ICE PEE RRR? why ? are you also son of someone who took money from the institution and live all your life in DHA lavish homes ? in that case you are not a solution but part of the problem mate.

to be honest if you do catch them they will say they wanted to integrate TTP back into the society since thats what Imran Khan also wanted to do.
remember that?

Hence, my point.

The Pakistani security establishment left it too late until the problem blew up in the face.

Had the Pakistani government been awake and gone after TTP, before the Yanks had to convince, the problem could have been nipped in the bud.

Personally, the Lal Masjid fiasco was left alone for too long due to the apologetic landscape that spans the political, security, judicial spheres. The premise should have been flushed of all terrorists from day 1 and a brutal crackdown on TTP post Lal Masjid would have been the order of the day, but that is hindsight.

We, as a nation, are committing the same mistake. It is time then nation has a consensus and goes after the TTP. With due time, the same will need to be done against the Taliban.

I understand your point but the problem is way deeper than lal Masjid because a big section of our society considered them as mujahdeens. This narrative was promoted by our brotherly countries aswell as our state. The state cannot suddenly declare them as terrorists, this is why they are always willing to negotiate with these people, these people were made jihadis by the state through foreign funding, through new quran translations, through fatwas but its all top secret who was responsible, the media and government will never mention it.

The problem continues because our state is still trying to win over their assets instead of eliminating them. The state needs to promote counter narrative against the ideology of the extremists, fundamentalists and terrorists. They have failed at it 90% as they are busy looting.

Induct them as foot soldiers in whatever force the Army is using against the militants. Kill two birds with one stone (eliminate the other side; and provide income to the tribals as well).

They already did this back in 2005 time. Tribal laskhars and Anti TTP militia called Ansar Islam was formed but guess what? The army supported them but then withdrew and let the laskhars and Ansar Islam get slaughtered by the TTP, Lashkar Islam and other terrorists. The establishment keeps playing double games, they could have easily made the anti ttp militia strong and controlled the tribal areas but had to withdraw for some odd reason and on top let the terrorists slaughter them.

Last time PMLN came to the powers, they authorized the military operations against TTP. I hope they authorize the military operation again. They didn't authorise the military action. Only MQM and PPP were pro military action and PMlN, JUI, JI, PTI were extremely against the action, JI JUI declared their support for the militants and called them mujahdeens. The army declared the operation without the approval of the government and once the government knew the operation has started then PMLN government claimed they approved it to save face.

TTP ran back to Afghanistan. And it is up to Afghan Talibans to either control TTP or whatever it is they can do.

Pakistan establishments have done their jobs at Pakistan but that doesn't mean the source of the funding is dead and so is the groups residing a safe haven in Afghanistan.

Just to understand this better, fundamentally what does TTP want, their own state?, for all of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to follow their laws?, the area to be made autonomous?, army to withdraw?

All the above have to be a no no, a sovereign nation can not give up an inch of its land or its laws (i know that sounds hypocritical given current political unrest but that aside for now). So negotiations become pretty point less if its the case and only solution is taking them out wherever they are relentlessly and anyone who supports them needs taking out, jailing, hanging whatever it is for treason. An iron hand approach unfortunately to stop/curb terrorism.
TTP won't be happy until they overthrow the state of Pakistan and establish an Islamic state.

I am enjoying this shitshow thoroughly LOL PDM is in action and destroying Pakistan. From economy to security. Welcome to purana Pakistan lads. You wanted it your way. Now don't cry about how much of a saviour your army is. How righteous they are. Get to work because you are making a mockery out of this country.

While the tribal may very well have helped the miscreants settle in, I wouldn't quite paint the issue with a broad brush.

We can see tribal protests all the way from last year where they protested the presence of TTP members in their lands, and the government and establishment of the time kept on pacifying them by saying that we are negotiating. They won't do nothing.

Do you expect that we take plane loads of tribal elders out to Kabul and Kandahar, while at the same time the same tribal start shooting at the TTP? Both cannot go hand in hand.

And more recently the tribal request to the governmnent is to let them take up arms and fight the TTP. Do we want two militias going against each other? That won't turn out good.

I am hearing that there is a silent admission within the estab that they mucked up with the negotiations, and let the TTP regroup. Let's see what follows.

ISLAMABAD:
Amid an upsurge in terrorist attacks, the country’s civil and military leadership is undertaking a major policy review in order to stem the tide of banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), officials familiar with the development told The Express Tribune.

The rise in the TTP-sponsored attacks has pushed the authorities concerned to revisit the strategy pursued by the previous government.

Official sources say closed door discussions are ongoing and major decisions are expected in the next couple of weeks. A meeting of the National Security Committee is likely to be convened to debate and take the crucial measures against the renewed threat from the TTP.

“The situation in certain areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in the tribal districts, has deteriorated to the extent that a major military offensive is not ruled out,” an official while speaking on condition of anonymity admitted.

“The talks with the TTP are no longer taking place and the return of militants as part of an earlier understanding will have to be reversed,” the official added.

Officials conceded that the policy of talking with the TTP has backfired and the terror outfit had used the talks to regroup. “It was a big mistake and has to be rectified,” said another official.

There has been a 51 per cent increase in terrorist attacks since the Afghan Taliban takeover in Afghanistan. The suicide attack in Islamabad on Friday was first after several years highlighting the renewed threat posed by TTP.

“Indications are and the situation is such that Pakistan can launch a military offensive against the TTP,” commented Dr Asfand Yar Mir, counter-terrorism expert associated with the US Institute of Peace in Washington.

"Apart from the military offensive, Pakistan may also consider the option of cross-border operations against the TTP," Mir said, adding that the TTP leadership was operating out of Afghanistan with impunity.

Pakistan hoped that the return of the Afghan Taliban would help eradicate the TTP threat. But contrary to those expectations, there has been a spike in the TTP-sponsored attacks.

Since the Taliban takeover, around 420 terrorist attacks were recorded in Pakistan. In three months alone, the banned TTP claimed responsibility for 141 attacks. This despite the fact that in June, the TTP announced an indefinite ceasefire. The TTP ended the truce on November 28, accusing Pakistan for violating the terms of engagements.

Observers believe that Pakistan took the TTP threat lightly and seeking a peace deal with the dreaded group was a major mistake. As part of the confidence-building measure, Pakistani authorities allowed hundreds of TTP militants to return home. The terror outfit like the past used talks and ceasefire to regroup.

Official circles are concerned over the deteriorating law and order situation in K-P districts and all options are on the table to deal with the situation.

We shouldn't take knee jerk actions , it should be carefully planned and information intelligence led. Last thing we want is to create more terrorists through heavy handed tactics. We need to work on the head of the enemy and find and focus on their weaknesses. Best to fight an insurgency with insurgency and give them a taste of their own medicine. Unleash the bounty hunters.
