Suspends jail term for 6 months on condition

The government today decided to release BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for six months on humanitarian grounds and considering her age, Law Minister Anisul Huq said.

The government suspended her sentence as per section 401 of Criminal Code of Procedure, he told reporters at a press briefing at his Gulshan residence.

However, Khaleda, the former prime minister of the county, has to stay home in Dhaka and receive her treatment here, the minister said.

She would not be allowed to leave the country, he added.

Replying to a question, Anisul Huq said the home ministry will take decision about the timing of her release.

The BNP chief landed in jail after being sentenced to five years' imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case by a special court on February 8, 2017.

On October 30, 2018, the HC enhanced her punishment to 10 years in the case after dismissing her appeal.

On October 29, 2018, Khaleda Zia was convicted in Zia Charitable Trust corruption case and sentenced to seven years' rigorous imprisonment by another special court in her absence.

She is currently under treatment at BSMMU.

Well don't know. She is in home quarantine for 14 days. Expats who returned should remain in quarantine, also people who visited other countries are required the same. But why Khaleda Zia? She was in jail. So maybe you are true. But there is no way for us to know it.

There is more to it because general public do not go past hearsay. During 1972-74 period Bangladesh central bank reserve had came down to such low level that no foreign exporter would honor the LC's issued by Bangladesh Bank. That made it impossible for them to import essential supplies from abroad. Mujib government kept this liquidity crisis secret and played the blaming game on USA under instructions from the Soviets. Soviets were then backing their prime Indo-Soviet agent Tajuddin Ahmed. In order to put pressure on Mujib , they too held up food supply despite huge surplus.
I highly recommend you to read old archives from the Soviets and Americans which are hardly read and understood by BD journalists. All they quote is further from the truth and based on hearsay.

I believe it is you who is talking hear-saying. Neither India nor USSR are or were having surplus of food that can feed 70 million people. They are also very good at using Bangladeshi and Pakistani against each other using old issues. Nowadays buttering Pakistanis as Indian is highly beneficial for their agenda.Same goes for AL vs BNP.
