Govt bans new solar and wind projects in Pakistan

. . .
Pakistan must not build any coal power plants since they cause severe pollution and we do not have resources to even to provide healthcare. Why don't this government build this coal plant besides the Raiwind palace so that Nawaz Sharif can breather coal dust air, drink polluted water and also get uninterrupted power supply. The choice is between polluted environment with electricity and natural environment without electricity. Coal power plants are very bad idea.

Dont worry, the article is misleading. The gov hasn't banned new projects, it has decided to not build new projects until a new feasibility study can show practical results (I don't think tribune understands what "ban" means). From what i can tell the CURRENT projects regarding solar and wind (most being led by Chinese funding) are still going ahead as planned, and should be completed by the 2017 deadline. Frankly, the government has obligations it must meet, if it wants to receive Chinese funding, and as big of an idiot Nawaz can be, he wont squander this opportunity.

"Already three wind power projects with a combined generation capacity of 200 megawatts have been initiated in cooperation with China under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and one solar project of 900MW capacity. Apart from this, work is continuing on a 950MW solar plant."

The GoP is already working on a major solar power park that will add 950MW.

If the news is true, I think it's just a temporary suspension on the federal government funding the construction of new solar power plants due to the high expenses involved. It seems the government is trying to address immediate power needs first.

Also the suspension does not prohibit private companies from developing solar power plants. Also I'm not sure but it doesn't seem to prevent provincial governments from developing solar power plants in their provinces.

Significant steps taken towards Dubai’s renewable energy targets | The National

Dubai has resources to pour billions in Solar energy projects and Pakistan does not have that luxury. Pakistan must wait not make huge investments until there are more technological breakthroughs that lowers the cost of equipment and increases in the electricity generation.

THis LNG is a HUGE scam. A couple of billion dollars being made by ruling family and friends. So the ban on anything other than LNG is not that unexpected.

Why don't you name who these "ruling families and friends" are and how do you know they are making "billions of dollars".

They are generating the resources. They do not have much oil.

Looks like China doesn't want any competition in this "Captive" market.

Yeah that's why both Pakistan and China under the new economic corridor have initiated three new wind power projects and a large 900MW solar power project. Plus there's another solar power plant already being constructed not sure if it is joint or by GoP only but a 950MW solar power plant.
