According to the new policy, the Hajj expenses have been divided into two parts, peoples who will be travelling from south zone of the country will have to pay a amount of Rs 436,975 and for the north zone the total amount will be Rs 4,26,000.

Sourced said that people of age 80 and above and the people who could not be named in balloting for consecutively three years will be able to go for the holy journey without balloting.

The government quota for pilgrims will be 60% and the private travel agencies’ will get a share of 40%. The applications for Hajj will be received from February 20 and 184,210 pilgrims will perform the sacred ritual this year, as per the new policy.

A day earlier, the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) said that subsidy on Hajj is permissible and the government can provide grants to minimise the expenses of the holy journey.

“The government can grant subsidy on Hajj from any source except Zakat,” CII chairman Dr Qibla Ayaz said.

What the hell? I did not know Pak subsidised Haj. This takes away the meaning of Haj. How can you go if others are paying for your Haj? And that in a poor, nearly bankrupt country?

Think of it the other way....the subsidy made it a little easy for the poor to go for Hajj....It is getting real difficult to complete your religious obligations as time moves on...

If we were rich, then definitely yes. At present it is between man and God.

of course it is between Man and God....i was merely pointing out that by providing subsidy the Govt was facilitating the Poor to complete their religious obligation which sadly isnt the case anymore....

I dont think i am being completely understood here so let me try this one more time in a diiferent way....
As the case is with electricity and gas bills which are collected from the people on the basis of the units that they consume why doesnt the Govt divide the people going for Hajj on the basis of their annual income....obviously there are people who dont need this subsidy but abolishing it completely would deprive the middle class of the opportunity to visit the Almighty's House....hopefully i have made my POV clear now

The government simply has no business trying to help people perform Hajj that is NOT obligatory on those who cannot afford it by themselves.
