Purchase of Rafale Fighter Aircrafts

As per the India-France Joint Statement issued by the two countries during the Prime Minister’s visit to France, Government of India conveyed to the Government of France that in view of the critical operational necessity for Multirole Combat Aircraft for Indian Air Force (IAF), Government of India would like to acquire (36) Rafale jets in fly-away condition as quickly as possible. The two leaders agreed to conclude an Inter-Governmental Agreement (IGA) for supply of the aircraft on terms that would be better than conveyed by Dassault Aviation as part of a separate process underway, the delivery would be in time-frame that would be compatible with the operational requirement of IAF; and that the aircraft and associated systems and weapons would be delivered on the same configuration as had been tested and approved by IAF, and with a longer maintenance responsibility by France.

A Negotiating Team has been constituted to negotiate the terms and conditions of the procurement of 36 Rafale jets and recommend a draft agreement. The meetings of the Indian Negotiating team with the French side have commenced.

The RFP issued earlier for procurement of 126 Medium Multi Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) has been withdrawn. In this multi-vendor procurement case, the Rafale aircraft met all the performance characteristics stipulated in the Request for Proposal (RFP) during the evaluation conducted by Indian Air Force.

This information was given by Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar in a written reply to Shri Ahmed Patel in Rajya Sabha on Thursday, 30 July 2015.

Right... ToT... and about 40% MKI fleet aint airworthy... Problems with engine discovered... why only IAF MKI's engines? Why not those exported to Malaysia for instance? Something not very elegant coming out of Nasik facility it seems? ToT went bonkered?

i never said any thing offensive about mr kalam i talked about what some papers said about him and that got me thinking. and i did some research and found it made sense.


now your talking. but this time you should an engine maintenance facility in india, instead of sending engines to russia for repair. but the al41 is a very powerful engine. the thrust to weight ratio should be at least 1.09 you need it. the su30 mki is already getting aesa radars aren't they? i read a report that russia offered a su35 to india specs. to be built in india. i believe this is you best bet. the su30 mki is good but the su35 is better. besides you need them to complement the 36 rafales your eventually going to get
your right about a dedicated engine maintenance facility for MKIs but i guess we already have one and their are already work in progress to have one such facility for each command to safe time dont worry we are already doing that :coffee:

Lca mk2 is naval version?

Sorry for the delayed response. LCA MK 2 means a more upgraded version compared to previous one (specially engine and avionics). It is not related to any specific terms such as Naval or Airforce. However, the Airframe of LCA decides whether what purpose it is built for for eg Naval (lesser hardpoints, reinforced bottom) compared to AF LCA which will be specifically designed for them (the Airframe and points).

Hence, an LCA MK 2 can we for both AF and Navy once the Engine and Avionics upgrades will be integrated and opertaional clearances will be provided to them.

look joke aside google told me there is tejas lca mkII = mk2.

This is not good for India and now people will not taken notice seriously if any thing come from India. A very bad decision :disagree:.
