Overrated but nothing. As a part of British Raj tradition, they used to randomly entitle some ethnicity as "highly martial" so it can cheer them and pick out full potential through making sure every youth is recruited. Also, your claim about Bhattis, Rana, Rai, Rajputs etc. It doesn't work like that. Those ethnic clan are no longer purely ethnic. And in today's world, it's more about how better a soldier is trained. You win with your brain, not through hiding under a rock and bayoneting your enemy shouting "haaaaa". Bravery depends on your growth and teachings by your parents, mentors, teachers etc or the atmosphere you get all around you.

Remember, when Raj was failing to invade Burma despite using all your Gurkhas and Soldiers with Hindu-Indian origin. Punjabi and Sindhi soldiers were called to do that job, which they did. Later, Sindhis were among the first ones to launch rebellion against the British Empire. In result, Raj termed Sindhis as "cowards and deserters" from the Army for propaganda purposes.

Conclusion: Gurkhas are overrated and casts do not define your bravery now.

And the battle of Maianee lead to the fall of Sindh to the British in the late 18th century.

The British conquered panjab yet recruiters Panjabis.

Baloch and Pakhtun fought the british and were resisting them till the end but still the british recruited them.

We Baloch were called savages by the british, yet the brits tried their best to recruit Baloch, however Baloch never joined the british in significant numbers.


The Martial Races theory was even followed by the british when recruiting their own Scottish countrymen.

Pakistani Punjabi/Kashmiri/Sindhi Rajputs and Sikh Rajputs look similar, while Rajastan has higher mixture of Other Indians.

No they dont.

Panjabi (including parahari speakers of AK), Sindhis look similiar because they live right next door. The Sindhis however have a different look than Panjabis..Sindhis on average are leaner and have a bit darker complexion and sharper features.

And Kashmiri/pahariye are also fairer than Panjabi rajputs. However lots of Kashmiri rajput castes also live in Panjab specially Jhelum valley.

The Northern Janjuas etc are more closer to them.

As for Rajhisthanis, lol they are much more casteist than Pakistani rajputs. They dont mix with anyone, they dont even marry in their villages.

The Hindu Rajputs of Umerkot, Sindh are not Sindhi but Rajhisthanis who migrated to Thar, Sindh Pakistan.

Similiar rebellions also took place in Panjab, the Gojra rebellion after 1857 was of a much bigger scale.. it was started by Ahmed Khan Kharral of Kamalia, still didnt stop the british from recruiting Panjabis.

by now, you should know that most Gorkhas in the IA come from within India. There are many regions in India where Gorkhas make up the majority. Nepali is actually an official language in India, making us the second largest Nepali country after Nepal itself. @Tshering22 knows this very well.

by now, you should know that most Gorkhas in the IA come from within India. There are many regions in India where Gorkhas make up the majority. Nepali is actually an official language in India, making us the second largest Nepali country after Nepal itself. @Tshering22 knows this very well.

Yeh, yeh, yeh. So, boss in a ocean of 1,400,000,000 why would do you need to even recruit a Nepali Sino-Tibetans that are a tiny drop in a ocean. And let me know what grades the Sikhs give to Gurkha bravery seeing that they were on recieving end of Gurkha bullets and bayonets in Jallianawallah Bagh.

And the Brits;, also do it. But check their population and then also check the yearly shortage of recruits.
