Google vs China thread

UAE's proxy server model very sophisticatedly blocks all pornography from websites including Google.

Meaning they don't influence Google but they've blocked the use of certain querystrings. I've done that setting up proxy servers for my company network as well. As soon as someone types anything related to Facebook/youtube/orkut in web address bar or certain search engines, they will get a blocked sign.

You need to keep a very detailed database and you can do it with or without Google's approval.

i was in UAE 2007-2008....i remember many people using hotspot and such proxy websites to access blocked sites....i wonder if its still working?

You don't get it ? do you ?

Its not about whether you were Judas or not, its more depend on

the appropriate place and way to express your feeling.

Do you really appreciate "Crocodile Tears" ? Wake up ! :china:

Westwind, Sir, you will find grey boy 2 most interesting. He sports a USA flag but is extremely anti-American and hateful to America. He is the kind of person who takes from others (Americans) in a sneaky selfish way. Probably he suffers from low self-esteem for which he compensates by tearing down others who seem more accomplished.

Well I believe having the right to decide that appropriate Place and the way to express is called freedom of speech. Also I dont think India and China are in a state of war (except on this forum and that too between a select set of users ;) )which should prevent a Chinese and an Indian national to agree on a point of view

Google does not need China as much as Baidu does.

Baidu is not threatening to leave China. Google is throwing a tantrum because their image of absolute dominance is shattered in China. Rather than play second fiddle to Baidu, google is looking for a face saving way to exit. Or gain media exposure through a publicity stunt.

The issue is a break-in that according to Google's investigation has origins in mainland China. Many other major news and merchants have their own forensic investigations and came to the same conclusion. They could be wrong, of course.

There's lots of criminal activity all over the place. The vast majority of financial phishing scams originate in Russia or Eastern Europe, but you don't see anyone making a political fuss about it.

Who is the 'drama queen' now?

Still google.

Btw, if you think that complaining about websites promoting racial/religious hatred is being a 'drama queen', then you should denounce all those portals that filter out anti-semitic sites. Somehow I doubt you have the guts or intellectual integrity to do that.

(I am not asking for hate sites to be allowed; simply asking for consistency in policy.)

Imitation websites emerge in China

Imitation websites of both Google and YouTube have emerged in China as the country faces off against the real Google over its local operations.

YouTubecn.com offers videos from the real YouTube, which is blocked in China.

The Google imitation is called Goojje and includes a plea for the US-based web giant not to leave China, after it threatened this month to do so in a dispute over web censorship and cyber attacks.
The separate projects went up within a day of each other in mid-January, just after Google's threat to leave.

"This should be an issue with Google's intellectual property, also with China censorship," said Xiao Qiang, director of the Berkeley China Internet Project at the University of California-Berkeley. "I cannot see how these sites can survive very long without facing these two issues."

Both sites were still working. It wasn't clear what Chinese authorities would do with them, if anything.

China's National Copyright Administration has been cracking down on illegally run websites and this month issued a code of ethics, but no statement was posted on its website about the Google and YouTube imitations.

Google had little comment. "The only comment I can give you right now is just to confirm that we're not affiliated," spokeswoman Jessica Powell said in an email.

China is famous for its fake products, but this is the first time such prominent sites have been copied in this way, Xiao said.

The creators of the two sites could not be reached.
