What's new

Goodbye, USS Enterprise CVN-65

you must be mad.Regardless whether the United States will sell it to you,it needs big money to keep it working.and ,you do not have supporting fleet.however, it is a good choice for india.:cheesy:

No not mad, just a thought, I am too ambitious. More important than having this carrier is how to convince the US to lift restrictions on the sale of lethal weapons to Vietnam.

.
Not exactly! there are rumors USS Kitty Hawk was offered to India and India rejected as the carrier was too big for India's need, affordability and lacked of trained personal to operate it.

actually when our naval personnel examined it they found it to have a lot of corrosions in it hull and then there was another factor to be taken into consideration . what if we went to war and the US held back parts . (they did it in 98 , as a result most of our sea king fleet was grounded)

actually you are not that far off . the US and Vietnam are going closer . it might be another 5 yrs but yes military sales are probably an option. (My opinion)

. . .
We can use it just like what China did with Varyag . What you say ?

Varyag is a small carrier, Kittyhawk is a supercarrier. You use a different operating method between those 2. USA is the sole country that had Supercarrier Operation experience, stem from WW2, the other country that had operated SUpercarrier (Which defined as 75+ planes) are the Imperial Japanese Navy, which they are not allow to have one anymore. Even Chinese cannot operate a supercarrier today

Then we will get experience right ? This carrier can be used for 30+ years , by that time Indian would be in need for Super Carriers powered by nukes , this will give an operational edge over China .

Do you know what is the basic requirment to operate a supercarrier? Not only something you need to train with, but something you need.

Did it ever occure to you anyone could build supercarrier, well, it's just a big ship, basically anyone who can build oil tanker can build a supercarrier as tanker is bigger than a supercarrier, yet only the United States operate Supercarrier in the world, not France, not China, not British, not Indian, not Italian, not Russia, not Thailand, not Brazilian, do you know why?

let's put india in the spot light, Indian Air Force operate some 300 Modern Fighter, that's 160 SU30MKI, 70 Mig-29 and 60 Mirage 2000. With some 120 Tactical Bomber. Let's say if Indian were to operate a supercarrier which carry 80 planes, how do you put a quarter of your airfroce in the ship and use it wisely? You will encounter a lot of security problem (As if your Carrier go down 1/4 of your air-air defence will be down with it, that's a quite a big gamble) Then you need to control at which hanger, which plane load what ordinance. Which have to be cooperate with the operation standard (eg you need to load AG ordinance when you are in a CAP mission?) And finally you need to have a strong enough radar to keep track on which aircraft is launched and enroute to where. Think of it this way, a normal capability airfield, you load and launch maybe 40-60 planes with about 200 sortie a day, in an aircraf carrier you load 80 plane and launch about 2-300 sorties a day without the space of a full-size airfield, how would you cope with it?

Ok, let say you have system to cope with the supercarrier, will you need one is another problem, where do you need your supercarrier? Places to moor, Deep enough harbor to resupply, forward bases and friendly port, you have to have all that to have your supercarrier worthwhile. Again, you do not just bunch 75-80 planes and have your carrier run up and down your own coast, they need to go somewhere.....

The reason why others did not go for supercarrier is due to high costs . The carrier would be a plus for us , even if we station 1 or 2 squadrons on it because we would be paying less than it is worth of . We can always use the carrier for experience in operating super carrier which would be a plus after 30 years when IN might target for blue water navy .

If you are only gonna put 1 or 2 squadron of plane, anybody would say a normal smaller carrier would be enough. You do not need a supercarrier for that.

As for a blue water navy, both UK and France are considered blue water navy in today's world standard and they both do not operate supercarrier. and honestly i don't see why India will ever need supercarrier now or in the future, unless you planning on occupied some foreign port in a different continent?

 did you read what you wrote?

it is a good choice for india.:cheesy:
Since the Varyag has turned out to be a lemon, the Chinese should now try and get this piece of junk and try and refurbish it. If they can't then the Chinese can always convert it into another museum piece like the Varyag! :cheesy:

.
airforce planes operating from an aircraft carrier? :disagree:

i didn't say airforce plane operate on a navy carrier, i only said how much plane you currently have and how it represent the force you got from your carrier.

Dude, 80/300 is not exactly 25%. It's about 27%
