Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has got some good news to share. According to him, two major solar panel makers has agreed to set up their plants in Pakistan.

Taking to his official twitter account the federal minister for Science and Technology wrote that world’s two major solar panel will set up their plants in Pakistan very soon. Although, Fawad Chaudhry didn’t disclose any further details about the companies and the site of plants.

Mr. Chaudhry taking a dig at the ongoing protest by Jamiat Ulema Islam and other parties said that “good news is not covered in political plays.”

“I am happy to announce that world’s two major solar companies’ plants are being set up in Pakistan,” Fawad Chaudhry wrote.

Just over a week ago, Fawad Chaudhry had invited Chinese companies to set up lithium battery manufacturing units in the country. The federal minister had held meeting with CEO of MERA PC Solutions in Beijing in this regard.

In his tweet Fawad Chaudhry announced that China’s second biggest battery producer will be setting up it’s workshops in Pakistan. Furthermore, lithium battery powered buses will also be rolled out on roads manufactured by the very company in Pakistan.

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry is keen on introducing modern technologies in the country. Earlier, the federal minister had announced that driverless cars will soon be on the roads in Pakistan in the next few years. Fawad Chaudhry had stated that the project is already in his ministry’s plans.

Fawad Chaudhry had also met with the representatives of Skywell Company of China to convince them to explore opportunities of launching electric vehicles in Pakistan.

Solar power (over all cost) is comparatively expensive than other sources. Just because it’s called solar solar people thinks, it’s free or something. Pakistan needs long term hydropower plants and switch all vehicles to electricity so that Pakistan stop wasting Billion of dollars buying foreign oil.

Solar is expensive at the moment but as manufacturing becomes more intense cost should spiral down.

Can you really take this PTI cartoon seriously when he recently claimed Pakistan put the Hubble Telescope in space?

How on earth PM Khan chose him to become the Minister of Science and Technology, I will not understand. A national embarrassment.

Solar PV needs lot of sophisticated work. It is unlikely that a foreign company suddenly invests in manufacturing the solar panels without any time and investment for infrastructure building. Several infrastructure like refined silicon, high quality fabrication facilities etc are needed to make modern solar panel with reasonably high efficiency. So, in all likelihood, this is an assembly plant without manufacturing.

Secondly, you are right in saying that solar is not cost effective. Solar is just a means of reducing fossil fuel consumption to reduce the depletion rate. By itself, it isn't useful. Since Pakistan has limited consumption of Fossil fuel, solar makes little sense

Whenever there will be illiterate, criminals, liars and thieves in 'supreme and sacred' parliament then any such appointment is not a national embarrassment. Such politicals are reflection and face of our corrupt society and culture; we choose them to lead Pakistan none else.
How you could expect an organisation to be transparent, developing and productive while always crminals, thieves and corrupts lead it?

Although Major Hydro Projects Should be on our top priority we neither have time and nor money to get instant benefit.
It took min 8~10 years from Start to finish. We can't get Electricity before that don't forget Our demand will increase and all existing Dam storage will further reduced.
Dams are long term we should start now. Most logical is public-private partnership. Also Province should bear some cost if they want loyalty fees.
Solar Panel is one time cost. we don't need any imported fuel for it. Sun Light is Free. Not only you will help in reducing load on national grid but you will also be able to sell surplus electricity to make that project more feasible.
Another benefit is insulation. Your Roof Will be covered & we all know major load is of AC.

We are already producing Solar Panels at low rate. He is probably talking about Panel not Cell.

101% wrong. Solar panel is long term investment. we can sell surplus electricity back to Grid plus benefits of insulation in summer.
Fossil Fuel Consumption is high. Almost all Power Unit run on imported fuel excluding the one which run on Thar (Brown Coal).
Local industries and commercial sites run on Generators Imported fuel.

Solar panels should be made in Pakistan and private houses should be encouraged to install it on their roofs. Should have easy financing options so that more residents take part in it. A great way to solve energy problems, protests caused due to electricity shortage and circular debt.

Wow, Indians writing intelligently on pdf, makes a change.

That’s should be the only reason Pakistanis should be excited about Solar panel. #1 locally produced to create job market. #2 for general public and home installation.

We been saying this for 30 years. Make more than 1 Dam simultaneously. Storage don’t decrease overnight. It takes 30 to 40 years. Dams can be clean to increase storage and they provide water.

solar panel are expensive to make, don’t generate electricity half of their life cycle (I.e night, cloud, rain) their efficiency drop significantly with time. They don’t last as long as other projects. Need constant maintenance. Per unit price is more than Hydro.

.
we should ensure that our public is employed in such factories at skilled positions and not limited to lower level jobs

Yes. we do need to built more then 1 Mega Dam but do we have money to built atleast 1 Mega Dam Answer is no.
2 Possible Solution if Govt. can't arrange fund for it 1> Public - Private Partnership 2> Built - Operate - Transfer Rule
Dams are long term project(Min 8~10 Years). What also need short and medium term solution for Electricity.
Storage don’t decrease overnight. It takes 30 to 40 years. Dams can be clean to increase storage and they provide water.
Incorrect.
From Day 1 you will start getting silt and in first Decade if not 4~5 years you will notice the difference in dam Storage Capacity.
No. Too Remove that much of sand not only required lot of time but also money. Its more feasible to Construct new Dam.
2 Step we could take to minimize silt in Dam.
1> Small and Medium Dams & Plantation in Northern Area. Harsh Winter people burn woods to survive.
2> Construct Dam in Such a Manner that we can remove Silt(Partially - Complete Removal not possible) from it using Gates in Lower End of Wall instead of using Slipways. For Example: Three Star Gorgeous Dam China.

Depend on what quality of Solar Panel you use. Its only low quality cheap panels whose efficiency reduce drastically.
You can Sell surplus energy back to Distribution Company(LESCO, FESCO etc).
We should speedup our solar panel installation in Consumer and business sector.
Govt. should Focus their Resources on DAMS but for short term they can install Solar Panels on Govt. Building.

we should ensure that our public is employed in such factories at skilled positions and not limited to lower level jobs
First it will not create much job. Second for any major investment they would need positive feed back from Consumers.
And its most likely be limited to assembly and manufacturing of Panels with imported Cells.

Instead of Taxing people for stupid stuff to pay back loans (fiscal deficits due to oil imports). Every electric and water bill needs to have New dams fee and issue bonds or something. That’s how Govt fund projects in US. People can’t complain because it’s directly related to what they are using.

If Pakistan can generate money for $10 billion of oil imports every year. Nations of 200 million can surly generate a single billion every year to make 2 dams simultaneously. Once dams are up n running. Savings from $10 billion of oil imports + revenue from dams + water and agricultural.

From Day 1 you will start getting silt and in first Decade if not 4~5 years you will notice the difference in dam Storage Capacity.
Slit will start coming from day one but Most dam don’t see any significant reduction in capacity until half of their life cycle. Engineering design can reduce this issue.

How much you want to Charge on each bill? Present bill is already too much for some people. High Tariff, Taxes and high inflation and poor economy.
Maximum you can charge them few hundred(Pak Rupee) per bill in a month.

A single Billion is Pak Rupee not $. And 1$ Billion = too how many Pak Rupees?
Do you know how much Existing Fuel Cost? People are buying 660cc City Car for fuel Economy. All other Car Sales Down. It will only increase bike share which is already too high(Family, kids, children number no issue but more then 2 Adult Male not allowed).
For Commercial and business use result more inflation more business and commercial closed.
Even if some how we manage to charge 10% for dam which is never going too happen a single Diamer Basha Dam will took 15~20 Years minimum.
