Engineering companies in Scotland are expected to share in contracts worth more than $700 million which will be disclosed this week when Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan visits the Central Belt, according to Scotsman newspaper.
In the story published on Monday, it was understood that Khan will announce building a desalination plant to provide 36 billion gallons of drinking water to Karachi each year.
Over its lifetime, the facility is expected to generate revenue of more than $14 billion through maintenance and operation contracts.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) for water treatment plant is due to be signed this week, with MoUs for similar projects expected to reach around $16.2 billion in total, said the report.
Dr Ebad is visiting UK as part of a delegation of federal and provincial ministers.
He will be accompanied by a number of business representatives in Karachi.
Khan is also expected to announce launching a free zone in Sindh for companies looking to set up manufacturing bases for exporting goods to the UK.
His visit will include meetings with Scottish government ministers in Holyrood.
The delegation will also be given presentation by Scottish Development International (SDI), Scottish enterprises overseas division, on the growth of Scotlands renewable energy industry.
Many Scottish companies are already operating in Sindh and other parts of Pakistan, including Glasgow-based temporary power supplier Aggreko, which counts Karachi Electric Supply Company among customers for its temporary power plants.
