Good to see, India defeating it’s traditional rival.

Missed the game though. Hope it was a good one.

Congratulations to India.

Honestly, the medal tally looks depressing for India. The most populous country winning only 9 gold so far, while the countries like South Korea and Japan are way ahead of us.

Hopefully this should improve in coming years.

Veggie eater are no good to compete in sports.

13 gold 20 Silver 19 bronze 52 medals so far
There are still many sports whose finals are just coming to a Finale

What is the relation between population and medals tally ?? Japan and Korea are power houses both perform well even in olympics.

China and its system is very different. They are wonder and not any country can replicate them.

how many medals does indonesia(2018 performance is more because of being home team) and pakistan win inspite being very populous nations.. Its all about sports culture, sports infrastructure, genes. We sub continent people lack all three . To get medals we need atleast two of that criteria.

India is doing well since last 15 years whether it is common wealth and asian games. We are consistently finishing in top 5 in common wealth games and if we finish 4th in asian games this will be best ever finish not on paper though.( Inaugural edition we finished 3rd but number of teams are very less)

As we get wealthier parents will take risk by encouraging children to take sports instead of engineering hope things will change further in next few decades.

Performance in sports is a key indicator of development in a nation. Except track and field events where even very poor nations mainly from Africa have done well.

Till few decades back even China used to very low in medals tally at Olympics. Look at them now. Governments start focusing on sports after they have some leeway from economy related issues.

Indian contingent has won golds in few sports that weren’t used to be our strong point till some time back. This shows that people are ready to take risk in newer opportunities. And government is also providing the required support.

The culture of sports and games is still missing in the subcontinent. Look at total medal tally for SE Asia.

Here are some grounded truths. India's history in the totality of all sports has been POOR. There is no escaping that truth but as can be seen India, IMPROVES with each iteration of the games and the trajectory is ALWAYS upwards and at a phenomenal pace

Within a decade I foresee India being neck and neck with the top 5 nations in the world. That is remarkable progress for India, something all Indians can take some pride and satisfaction from.
