My first expierience was when I was a teenager. Everything turned out better than expected. Pakistan is fun to visit, not to live in. (I lived there for 3 years. ) (Imagine that sudden huge change of environment)
You are going for visit, so it will be fine and fun.
You've got to be kidding me........ I've lived in Pakistan for 26 years and the time i have spent outside of it has been the worst of my life. There is no place like Pakistan because you don't feel like an alien there, it feels like home. There is no place safe or unsafe because as a Muslim its our belief that we'll die the day we are supposed to die and death will come when it is supposed to come whether we are climbing a mountain or sleeping in our bed.
Some tips for Iota
Don't worry you'll enjoy your time here.
As far as safety is concerned, you have as much probability of getting mugged as in NYC and the blasts have been controlled Alhamdulillah. In Punjab (Especially Lahore), you'll have the best cuisine available at your discretion be it Desi, Chinese, Thai, Arabic, Greek, Japanese, continental......you name it, and if you are a fan of junk food you'll find a McDonald, KFC, Pizza Hut, Subway, Dunkin' Donuts and Hardee's franchise around every corner.
Also contrary to popular belief we have moved on from the age of Pentium 1 computers using 56 Kbps modems to connect to the internet long time ago and now you can find plenty of DSL, Wireless, USB and cable internet service providers at dirt cheap prices.
Regarding cellular services, our service providers are providing 3G services and calling your friends in USA will be cheaper than when you were there.
If you are a fan of Television, you'll find cable services providers providing each and every channel you could have gotten in USA.
For tourism, my suggestion is if time is limited do visit Islamabad and its neighboring hill stations like Peer Suhawa, Patriatta, Nathya Gali etc and if you are adventurous enough and have time on your hands than visit Naran, Kaghan, Gilgit, Sakardu, Hunza, Chilash etc.
Enjoy your stay....
