Global Power Shifting East?

Actually, according to the Economist, India is 40 years behind China in terms of development indicators.

And the gap is increasing every day.

There is an area of expertise in which Indians certainly exceed Chinese.

That area of expertise that Indians excel at is called "Flapping of the Mouth".

They certainly have the Gift of the Gab.

To many Indians, global power is measure by the number of white servants. That is what some of them strive to achieve. This is sad but true. A bunch of neo-racist .

I think it's only if you can write one letter like A. Indian government does this cheap lying when in reality India's real literacy rate is like 30%. Poverty in India is 60% yet these Indians want me to believe that literacy rate is 72%? BS.

Certainly Pakistan has achieved a lot with 1.5% of GDP on education and increasing poverty. Using own parameter Pakistan literacy will come out at 10%.

Totally agree. US is way ahead of China. So unless the Chinese work hard, Chinese will never match up to the US.

For that you need to get rid of rip-off culture. Otherwise you guys always 100 years behind Americans.

Of course Japan was known as a copy cat during the 19th and 20th century but while using it they managed to innovate and have their own ideas China is following the same route.

I'm afraid the vast majority of Asia is still poor excluding Korea, Japan, Taipei, Singapore, a lot if work to do.

I remember an essay in my high school English course by Bertrand Russell called, something like 'Reflections on the re-awakening' East'. He predicted the rise of China and India. And I think he bemoaned the ancient Chinese culture corrupted by Marxism from the West and cautioned against that. Not making any value judgement--just letting ya what has not left my mind since about the early 80's.
To come back to the topic, I think the best insights about The West's decline can be seen through the eyes of a conservative, even seemingly racist person like Patrick J. Buchanan; he often writes at amconmag.com. According to Pat, the decline of the West is inevitable: Immigration, unwillingless to take casualties in wars, softening of spiriit, lowered work-ethics....

I am not sure I agree with the OP or Pat--may be they are right, may be not. But to me we ALL are the same. Different members of the same human-family. I firmly believe in that.

I would say that Japan is the first Asian country to copy and improve on Western inventions. After that is Korea, Taiwan, HK and Singapore. Now, its China that is following suite. Its technology that these countries are copying, not so much on the culture.

Indians as a people need to start working hard and improve the lives of its people instead of pointing fingers when others are making progress.

Literacy in Pakistan is 58% and that in India is 74%. :)

Another totally useless reply, you are so sure about your numbers maybe you counted it yourself. if this makes you wet, let me throw some more juice in it, i think literacy in Pakistan is 54% and in India its 78%, now go get tired and sleep

That is census data. :)

Hello, you still did not answer my question.

Is it real that the Indian standard for literacy is to read and write your name or something like that?

From your response, most likely it is true. And if it is true, my sincere suggestion is: stop talking other countries or it makes you are a laughing stock.

Btw, China's Standard for literacy is able to "read and write 2000 chars".

Chinese students rank at the top and the Indian students rank near the bottom on both PISA and TIMSS tests.

What I've said is true, what you've said is something out of your a$$.
