'Girls in Bangladesh have more opportunities than in India': Amartya Sen

.
Those who rape boys will also be those who, like Taliban, subjugate women.
These are the people (junkies and child molesters) who you support. Most of them keep their women in shuttle-cocks as well.

Women empowerment in A-land, my aasss.

Guys lets not hijack the thread into one-up-ism about rape and Mullahs.

That is not the subject of the thread, if I may say so.

The subject was opportunity of women in our subcontinental countries and why they fare not as good in countries as they do in Bangladesh. Is religion (or the lack of conservatism) the only reason? No.

This chasm did not happen in one day. And Dr. Sen hasn't talked about it only a few days ago. He has been offering opinions on this (and has been an adviser to Bangladesh Govt.) for decades.

Net results are visible and succinct.

A reduction in population and maternal health, improved survival rates for babies, improvements in hygiene (open defecation especially) and female education levels - these were long term goals that Bangladesh achieved deliberately and as part of a forty year old plan (monitored extensively and sometimes partly assisted by UN agencies).

As the following link at the UN shows - Bangladesh female employment rate is 36% while Pakistan and India both have rates of 24% and 23% respectively. Why is this and what can be done to improve rates for India and Pakistan?
