Meenakshi

A Class 11 student was brutally stabbed in full public view in Central Delhi's Anand Parbat area on Thursday evening by a man against whom she and her family had lodged a police complaint for eve teasing.

Nineteen-year-old Meenakshi, who received multiple stabs, was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital but she did not survive. Her family alleged the accused had harassed the victim even a day before and she had objected to it.

The police have, meanwhile, arrested the accused, identified as one Jai Parkash, from a local school late on Thursday and have detained his brother, the other accused in the case.

Meenakshi's family told the police the two accused used to harass their daughter often and that they had even lodged a police complaint two years back. According to the police, the mother of the two accused is also an accomplice in the murder.

"The incident took place on Thursday around 7.30 p.m. when Meenakshi, a Class 11 student, was returning home after buying groceries. Jai Parkash, who was also in the same area, started abusing her," a police official said.

The officer added, "When she objected, he pulled out a knife and stabbed her multiple times. She then ran towards her home and her mother came out hearing her screams. He even stabbed her mother on her back when she came to her daughter's rescue. The accused then fled from the spot."

Police said the victim was rushed to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. Accused Jai Parkash was later apprehended from Ramjas School's playground in Anand Parbat area.

A senior police officer said, "After registering the case, we deployed local sources and several raids were conducted at all possible hideouts. We arrested the accused from the premises of a nearby school and recovered a knife from his possession."

Meenakshi's family alleged despite her being stabbed in front of so many eyewitnesses, no one came to their daughter's help.

"My daughter was killed in front of 50 people and no one came forward to help her. When I tried to save my daughter, the accused stabbed me too. I have injuries on my hand and back," Meenakshi's inconsolable mother said.

She alleged the accused men were harassing her daughter for long, forcing them to even lodge a complaint at Kamla Market Police Station.

"We have made several complaints against the accused and a court case is going on. Even that didn't change these people. They continued harassing her," the mother said.

Probably from personal experience. That's what he would do on seeing a non-Muslim or Ahmadi being stabbed.
