GHQ Attack – India Strikes Again by Zaheerul Hassan

Its scary how many people here are in denial. You have to acknowledge the problem before you can find a solution, blaming India might make you feel better, but it won't end the nightmare. These are your people (Pakistanis) and they are killing you. India would be the last country on earth to support the Taliban. We have dealt with Islamic militants far longer than anyone else has, we know better. Pakistan spent billions financing the Taliban and spreading their ideology and now you want to blame Hindus/Jews/Americans for your troubles.

What a joke, Hindu Taliban!? is this what it has come down to now? is the Pakistani populace really this gullible/defensive. Have some faith in yourselves and your ideals. Fight these people head on instead of concocting garbage to sooth your soul.

Pakistan needs to reform its society, rubbish articles such as this will only confuse and demoralize an already plagued society. Extremism has taken such a stranglehold on the country that they lash out at other religions and people instead of finding real answers. Take on the mullahs today so Pakistan still stands a chance tomorrow.

A pity really.

Paranoia is taking hold again.
Either Pakistan will eventually get over it or it will keep facing the same set of predictable consequences as in the past 60 years:

1. Blame India for something... anything.
2. Wage war against India.
3. Lose international support and sympathy.
4. Coup.
5. Ask for more aid.
6. Return to dysfunctional democracy.
6. Rinse, repeat.

It's getting boring now.

multi layer blah blah blah....do you really want to hear the whole story?? i dont even feel like sharing it in a public forum...

Brig anwar got killed, he was director MI (every body knows that now), who is also responsible for in house security arrangements.... there was no SOP, he came out to see what happening and was shot point blank....come on , didnt he had a radio-com or some thing....whats all the clumsiness for??

can you imagine some body can come inside and take 39 people as hostage in an army head quarter of the worlds sixth largest army with nukes....this definitely sounds ridiculous....

no , i am sorry to say, the jawans have no proper identification tools. all the identification they see is your uniform, our pathetically printed laminated ID cards (not electronic or scannable or computerised) and your car ....thats it.... they dot even bother stopping star cars...

i have been there a lot of times, i have been living in rawalpindi garrison for almost 10 years in many locations....i can still name places which are highly vulnerable. i thank Allah that talibans are actually morons, other wise they would have ripped up more elite.

there are certain flaws in our tactical manures. see, you just analyze the red mosque event...it was a total military flaw....can you define the lal masjid operation??? it started as covert....changed into commando and in the end it was all and all infantry assault with chemical weapons....even with that many SSGs got killed. it would have been much better if army would have called airforce to drop bombs over the compound while the army remained over outer parameter with machine guns to annihilate anyone who comes out running from the fire.because , what actually happened there was worst....did you see the molten metlas and ceiling fans from white phosphorus....when israel used WP in ghaza...we all screamed till our tonsils were soar....!! we the hypocrates.

ps : my prayers for all the martyred... May Allah bless them with the best.... may we all not die before we kill 1000 zionist atleast....may it be pakistanis...may it be americans or talibans (our government is full of zionists if you can actually see it)

well, india does support taliban for sure...there is no doubt about it , but we should not be clumsy in our end to define our defences and intelligence. un fortunately we have been careless and now india and america both are capitalizing....

dont worry, we interfere in india as much as its possible... every body knows pakistan patronizes kashmiri mujahidins (or used to ),

so, all is fare in war.... i think one more full fledge india pakistan was is coming up in the future...when iran will be attacked and pakistan flushes all the "militants" (i support them by calling them real jihadis), india will attack us from east .... its not a prediction...its just that india will not be having a better situation...

but we have to wait and see what happens to iran first.

India doesn't support Taliban because its your own created man made son. You created it for Afgan but they are now in your heart land. Only way to get help is to destroy them completely. India will be more happy then anybody else. India never wish to have Taliban on other side of border who could inf literate instead of regular Pak Mujahidins.

On, the other your govt. has to support terrorism in kashmir because it's wish of it's own people. Those who wish will always have to take care of its side effects.

.
Being an enemy it is India's right to exploit the situation in Pakistan in any way be it direct or indirectly.

India doesn't has right to exploit such situations. Only mistake they did was to support LTTE and what was result ? PM himself got killed. We have not understood, if we support, we gone be killed. We are now away from terrorism while you still support and that is why facing. Once you acknowledge, we want terrorism to be riped off from this map, you will see economic Pakistan. :mps:

Don't you think these terrorists either in kashmir or in pakistan should be eliminated?
you will feel sorry when these terrorists attack your own country and at the same time you will support and fund the terrorists in Kashmir also you feel proud about it
All these years you lived in a thought that india will attack from east, which never happened don't you think the mind set needs to be changed. :hitwall:

You should not differentiate Bad Terrorism & Good Terrorism. Both are interlinked and inter exchange their plans.

well, thats the worst mistake we are doing....the taliban are like motivated elements....we can use them...thats why america is killing them with the great scheme of "order out of chaos"

and ya , we and USA created taliban. but that excuse ended as we had sanctions for 10 years and we had so many financial problem until 9-11 attacks that we could hardly sustain our army...india has a reserve of 290 - billion dollars, they have a birg sitting in Kabul and have atleast 15 more "embassy" offices acrros iran pakistan border. indian intelligence will be so stupid for not teaming up with taliban

never fight with each other man, we are here analyze whats actually there....if i have been an indian military commander, i would have tried my best to utilize week elements of taliban.

every one, today , if we step back from USA then you will see, all these taliban will entre kabul and attack the american forces...trust me....what ever these guys are doing, they are doing it for islam....

the rules of Quran does not allow us to support the invaders and killers of muslims....and these days americans are the invaders and pakistani army is supporting and un islamic cause

also keep this thing in the mind that its the pakistani army that started the suicide bombing by patching up with americans and not the taliban...we have to see the point from which the whole conflict roots from

First India has taste what terrorist could do, what happen with LTTE and what they did by killing PM. We don't want to support any terrorism. India doesn't have interest in Pakistan, we also want taliban to stay out across our border because its much worst threat for India.

Of unarmed hostages and two brave commandos
Monday, October 12, 2009
By Rauf Klasra

ISLAMABAD: The standard operating procedure of not allowing any civilian or uniformed officer working at the GHQ to bear arms on the premises was cleverly exploited by the well-trained terrorists, who did not receive severe immediate resistance after some of them managed to break past the outer ring check post, reached thenearby located intelligence wing building and took hostage a large number of unarmed civil and military officers, reveal official sources.

The sources said that the operation was so well planned that while the terrorists were engaged with the army inside the GHQ, outside a group of their associates was busy calling media people on their cell phones within minutes of the attack. These journalists were informed that Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan men had taken control of the GHQ and had taken in a large number of hostages. The TV journalists in particular were told to air the news with the demand to stop military operation in Waziristan if they were interested in the safety of the hostages.

Reportedly, Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, who was present at a public ceremony, was given the news about this attack with the information that some military officers had been taken hostage by these terrorists. PM Gilani got this news almost around the same time when the terrorists’ associates were making desperate calls to the electronic media to inform them about their control over the GHQ and demands to stop military operation in Waziristan. The sources said that the hostages were taken within 10 minutes of the operation, but the news was not released to the media.

A source said that there was huge confusion once the attack was launched at the first check post of the GHQ as no one knew who was enemy and who was solider. The sources said the snipers sitting at the top of the building also took some time to recover from this shocking attacks as initially they got confused when after exchange of firing, they saw uniformed soldiers coming towards the GHQ while raising slogans of Allah-o-Akbar. These snipers took them as their own presumably going to protect the officers present inside the building. But, once these terrorists started killing people in front of the offices, the snipers knew better and killed four of them on the spot. But, it was too late as in the meantime, rest of the attackers had managed to penetrate the GHQ building and entered the Military Intelligence office.

They took over 22 military and civilian officers of MI hostage in one room. One suicide bomber was made to sit among those unarmed civilians and uniformed officers. Sources said these hostages were later taken into the basement by gunmen, who apparently had good knowledge of the building layout, and this made the job of rescue forces even more difficult.

The sources said at one stage when it was felt that the commandoes might not be able to capture or kill the terrorists without some losses to human lives, the decision was taken to storm the room where they were being held. But, later another strategy was adopted as two brave commandos volunteered to come forward to face the terrorists to diver their attention, so that others could storm them. This strategy was said to have worked but not before two valiant commandos knowingly embraced martyrdom so that many others could live.

Commandos rescue hostages in pre-dawn attack; four terrorists killed, one captured alive; two SSG personnel, three hostages die in rescue operation
By Shakeel Anjum

RAWALPINDI: Army commandos stormed the besieged security building of the General Headquarters (GHQ) in the wee hours of Sunday and rescued 44 men taken hostage by five terrorists on Saturday.

Four militants were killed in the process and a top terrorist was arrested in a critically injured condition. Two commandos and three hostages were also killed during the rescue operation. Some 42 military and civilian employees of a section of the GHQ, who were taken hostage at about 11:40 am on Saturday, were freed at 6:03 am on Sunday, but the search and clearance operation continued till 9:30 am, security sources said.

Earlier, nine captives, including two officers, managed to escape from the besieged building under cover of darkness and joined the troops, who were planning to storm the building and provided useful information about the exact location of the terrorists, the sources said.

Explosions and gunshots were heard just before dawn on Sunday, as the commandos stormed the building, while a helicopter hovered over the area. Three ambulances were seen coming out of the building.

The 19-hour siege was over within three minutes, as the commandos carried out a successful rescue operation with clinical precision. At 11:30 am on Saturday, the terrorists wearing military uniforms attacked a checkpoint of the GHQ, killing six Army men, including Brigadier Anwarul Haq and Lt-Col Waseem in a gun battle at the main gate. The terrorists, riding a Suzuki van, killed four troops at the check-post 1 and attacked a nearby building. Five gunmen were killed during the gun battle and two of them were captured in wounded condition. But others fled and took hostage some 42 military and civilian employees in a block housing security offices adjacent to the main GHQ building.

Talking to The News, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Maj-Gen Athar Abbas confirmed that nine captives had managed to escape from captivity and provided useful information just when the troops were preparing to storm the building.

He said the first target was the room where 22 people, including seven civilian staff members, uniformed clerical staff, NGOs, JCOs and officers were held hostage. He said the militants had connected grenades with improvised explosive device (IED), which could have caused major damage. All the rescued persons have been sent home, while five injured were admitted to a hospital.

He said the commandos completed the search operation in the security building with the arrest of the last holed-up terrorist, who, in a last-ditch effort, tried to blow up the explosives he was carrying, injuring himself as well as some security personnel in the process.

“Three hostages, two commandos and four terrorists were killed in the pre-dawn rescue operation,” he confirmed, adding: “One wounded gunman was captured. The operation is over and there is no terrorist left there.”

Maj-Gen Athar Abbas said the commandos launched the rescue operation under cover of darkness, with a blast and gunfire erupting at 6 am. He said a terrorist wearing a suicide jacket had held 22 men hostage, but the commandos acted promptly and gunned him down before he could blow himself up and the hostages were rescued unharmed.

“But three hostages fall prey to the terrorists’ firing, while four terrorists were killed during the operation. The commandos were tasked to eliminate the suicide bomber, which was successfully done, but in the process, three hostages were martyred by the terrorists’ fire,” the DG ISPR said.

“The rescue operation beginning this morning on the whole rescued 39 hostages in the first phase and at the end of the operation, five more hostages were rescued, while three hostages and two Pak Army commandos were martyred,” he said.

In all, 19 people, including six soldiers, two commandos, eight terrorists and three captives, died, while several others were wounded. During the rescue operation in another room, some personnel were wounded, as wanted terrorist Aqeel alias Dr Usman tried to blow himself up. But the commandos overpowered him. Aqeel is an ex-Army man and worked as a medical assistant, the Rawalpindi police sources said. He is a resident of Model Town, located at the Kahuta Road.

Aqeel, the linchpin of the terrorist network, was also involved in attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore as well as the assassination of Surgeon General of the Pakistan Army Hafiz Mirza Muhammad Mushtaq Baig, the principal of the Army Medical College, Rawalpindi. He retired in the late 80’s and later joined the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, the people investigating the case said, adding that he was linked to the Taliban based in southern Punjab.

An intelligence agency source said the terrorists had planted explosives at four places, but the commandos stormed the building and accomplished their mission so quickly that the terrorists could not get a chance to blow up the building.

A hostage, on condition of anonymity, told this correspondent that about 55 employees, including military men and civilians, were inside the building. He said they were busy with their routine work when some gunmen stormed the room. He said the militants shouted: “We are on a suicide mission and we will blow you too if you try to resist.” He said the employees were detained probably in three different places, but they were unaware of the situation in other rooms.

“We were scared but hopeful and knew that the commandos were quite capable of tackling such situation,” he said. “A group of commandos stormed our room and gunned down the militants in a trice and controlled the situation,” he added. He said he was unaware of how the hostages in other rooms were rescued.

Online adds: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani visited the GHQ on Sunday morning and expressed sympathy with relatives of late Brigadier Anwarul Haq. Military sources said that during the visit, the Army chief went to his office and also inspected the site of the operation.

Corps Commander, Rawalpindi, Tahir Mehmood and the chief of the general staff of the GHQ briefed the Army chief on the operation. The COAS congratulated the Special Services Group for carrying out the successful operation and lauded its professional capabilities.
