Ghani’s Gambit Can Afghanistan and Pakistan Ever Get Along?

Pakistan army is the biggest hurdle for the piece in Afghanistan

Sure, and your own ethnic divisions and complexes have no part to play in it at all...You Afghanis are a joke. You kill each other yourself first, and then blame it on foreigners. Lol.

And General Kayani was a double gamer, but general Raheel isn't. General Raheel is genuinely anti-terror. I am 100% sure he has no love for the Afghan Taliban and Haqqani network either. He just doesn't want to open up a war front with them.

Ghani is walking a thin thread against his people wishes in the hope that relations with Pakistan will tame Taliban. Any wrong step will back fire on Ghani and Ghani will become history. It is no secret that Afghans hate Pakistan for state of affairs that Afghanistan is in today.

Disagreements dont mean we cut off good relation with our neighbor

No this not about disagreement...I am saying Ghani is expecting too much from Pakistan that Pakistan may not be able to deliver.

The critical element though not much talked about is the issue of Durand line. Afghans have always believed the treaty still stands and demand its implementation.

This was the case when Afghanistan was under the monarchy and then under military dictatorship. It continued under communist government of Afghanistan as well. Even the same Mojahedin Pakistan supported, once they reached to power in Kabul, demanded the implementation of Durand line treaty. This was one of the main reason, which forced Pakistan to create Talibs then. But again when Talibs took Kabul, they flatly refused Pakistan's request to terminate the treaty.

Until an agreement is not reached on this issue acceptable to both sides, the relationship can not be developed beyond tactical level. One solution would be for UK (the original party to this treaty) be involved by Afghan and Pakistani government, paying Afghans a handsome compensation and terminating the treaty.

Yeah Meherdad: a former Colonial Power will (in the 21st century) TELL the people of FATA and tracts of the KPK to renounce their citizenship and become Afghan citizens. I guess you must be smoking Afghan hashish -- good stuff isn't it?

Did you even read what I have written? I said, UK will pay a fat compensation to Afghans (say 100 billion dollars) for Afghans to terminate the treaty.

What is your peaceful solution? Do you even have one? Or you want to continue bloodshed for it? I thought so.

And why would the UK do that Meherdad -- Germany has paid Israel for the dehumanization and murder of 6,000,000 people in the 20th century less than $20 billion dollars (the original amount was less than 2 billion, this is inflation adjusted) -- And Israel has a voice on the global stage. Afghan are going to get $100 billion from the UK ?!?!? -- that hash is good stuff I guess. Afghanistan today is referred (in the DC community) as "That Dust Bowl" - People care for Afghanistan and Afghans about as much as they do for "The Republic of Congo" (Can you point it out on a map).

Further Afghanistan has already gotten $100 in assistance and spending from the West -- not not much has it?

There is a video of Gen. Sher Mohammad Karimi (on youtube, bin trying to find it) the current Chief of Staff of the Afghan Army telling a group of cadets that Afghan land runs to the Indus -- what Durand line?!

Pakistan can afford the insurgency - if it fixes if economy, normalizes relations with India - Afghanistan cannot - if the Afghans wish to burn their house further - so be it.

Further on the matter of peace, Afghanistan needs to come to terms with its structural faults -- there is a reason Ghani is crying uncle -- do yourslef a favor watch Ghan's videos on Pakistan from a few years ago -- he's more menacing than the rest of em. This new lovey dovy affection he has for Pakistan is really a large object he finds in one of Afghanistan's fundamental orfice.

Blah, blah, blah. Go on and continue the bloodshed both in Afghanistan and Pakistan. What do I care.

Our peaceful solution is for Afghans to accept the borders as is or bear the consequences of aggressive overtures towards Pakistan.

All this appeasement to Taliban and Pakistan, and still Ghani has nothing to show for.

Pakistanis hosting Afghans for 30+ years - helping them in their time of need - a nothing to show for it???

Funny how logic can be applied asymmetrically?

And no peace negotiations with the Taliban, who officially dismiss all rumors which makes them appear strong and the Afghan government weak. Either Pakistan has no control over them, or they want to see Ghani fail, making it easier for their terrorist proxies to capture Kabul. So the 30+ years of war will become 40+ with no end in sight.
