"It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings" -- and boy is she singing as this round of Afghanistan/Pakistan dente goes down in flames.

Hard times ahead for Afghanistan / Pakistan.

Article here, excerpts below:

...

The Afghan president has risked his political capital and reputation in pursuing a new relationship with neighboring Pakistan in the hopes of bringing elusive peace to his war-weary homeland.

A string of spectacular Taliban attacks, however, seems to have compelled President Ashraf Ghani to end his pivot toward Islamabad because of its apparent failure to rein in the Taliban.

...

Ghani said the recent spike in violence in Afghanistan is a "turning point" for his administration. He said that in his telephone conversations with Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Raheel Sharif on August 9 he made it clear that "the government of Pakistan should have the same definition of terrorism in regard to Afghanistan just as it has for its own."

...

Ten months later, the Afghan leader appears to be disappointed. "We have waited this long for Pakistan to demonstrate its will through action. However, Pakistan still remains a venue and grounds for gatherings from which mercenaries send us messages of war," he said.

In a last-ditch effort to save the bilateral relationship, an Afghan delegation is expected to visit Pakistan this week to discuss antiterrorism cooperation.

But the Afghan leader seem to have made up his mind.

Imagine if Pakistan closed its door for Afghanistan along with kicking 6 millions Afghans too.

Mmm, this time it may just happen -- if relations continue to deteriorate the December extension is around the corner.

And, the Pakistani people will ask why is there no outrage in Afghanistan on the murder of our children?

@Umair Nawaz sab where are you? -- You have "some special knowledge" and "are not an ordinary civilian" -- any thoughts?

This nothing, just Indian money talking when need to be.

Indians are getting desperate on the LOC and with all the false flag operations in Kashmir. Then they are trying to coerce Ghani to make stupid remarks. All of this is happening just because the Indians have been completely left out of the Afghan peace process. Heck even the Chinese are there, because once the peace is established, they'll be the ones getting the mining and extracting resources out of Afghanistan via Pakistan.

All of those years when India played victim and hoped it would get a stronghold in Afghanistan, are gone. Expect some more bombings, high level assassinations as RAW cannot figure out what to do next.

I mean, imagine, you invested so much in Afghanistan on the back of the Americans, and when they leave they handover all the situation to your enemy....what would you feel....what would you do?

Ghani sab is a good man -- but he cannot ignore the chorus of the Afghan nation asking for Pakistani blood.

@Donatello
Dont forget their investment in MQM and Bla which is also getting a major *** whopping.

One thing I learned from living in Turkey was that they were fanatic about domestic security -- an organization like MQM would never have been able to keep a port city like Karachi hostage.

Turkey also caught Abdullah Ocalan -- the leader of PKK on foreign soil and brought him back to face justice in Turkey. I think relentless pressure against Altaf Hussein and Baloch separatist leaders is necessary.

For example Braghamdad Bugti travelled from Kabul to UAE on an Indian passport and applied for his visa from there -- Pakistan should have taken UAE to task for that.

as long Pakistani govt will keeping describing their relationship with a country as brotherly, brothers will keeping f'ing you.
This is what happens in real life between brothers and if you want that kind of relationship then dont cry it hurts.

Ghani is an idiot.
He should read Afghan history and the fate of those who have come before him. He should know (he probably knows) that without Pakistan, Afghanistan has zero chance of going anywhere. With no fundamental human development base to stand on, no access to outside world and the Iranians not giving two fcuks, it is time and again that he needs Pakistan more than a goldfish needs clean water to survive in.

Some nations are fortunate by time or by events that they sit on natural resources and are able to make use of them without anyone being able to exploit them
Some nations are fortunate to have a developed human base...to use that as a leverage to get ahead.

Afghanistan is neither of them.

I don't have to go back 50 years in Afghan history to know that. You know, people post photographs from pre-Soviet era on social media all the time to showcase how liberal or developed Afghanistan was. That is all freaking bullshyt. Select photographs don't show the reality that happens in Pamir mountains, Kandahar or anything outside of Kabul. Go back 500 years in history, and give me one instance where Afghanistan had even a hint of standing on it's own feet. All this time, it was a launchpad for warriors to make inroads, either from outside into Afghanistan or east and westwards towards Indian lands.

Today, like ever always, Afghanistan is at crossroads. Decisions that they make will impact their people for generations to come. Ghani is an old man, he will die soon a natural death, but if he screws up, plenty more will die of avoidable consequences.

Most people are saying that if he did not make the comments he did -- he would loose the support of Afghans leaving a path for all those who wish to depose him.

It's just for domestic consumption, the window is neither closing, nor have they closed. Peace talks will resume, and things will go back to normal.

Afghanistan closing the window on Pakistan is suicidal. Pakistan will NOT tolerate an anti-Pakistan Afghanistan (at least when it comes to the government). The day Ghani declares relations with Pakistan dead, is the day Afghanistan signs it's own death warrant.

Karzai has been looking to get back into power, these claims have a lot of merit. Ghani isn't stupid, he knows he has little choice, and the muted Pakistani response to his rant shows that Pakistan knows Ghani is only doing this to make sure he isn't deposed.

He's sending a delegation not to salvage relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, but rather to fix the damage that Afghan media and Intelligence agencies caused to the peace talks by leaking Omar's death, which should have happened after talks. the peace talks were supposed to declare a ceasefire during the second round, now that's pretty much a dead prospect. Talks may continue, but they're less likely to succeed, simply because of Afghanistan's own stupidity.

If he loses the support of the Afghans, what happens then? Regardless of who or whom the Afghans elect, the reality is that he/she too will have to work with the neighbors. The most powerful one is Pakistan. There is simply no way getting out of this rut. There is no choice, but to work with Pakistan on Pakistani terms. Yes, it is possible that Pakistan sees a stable Afghanistan in it's own best interests, in which case, it would be a win-win situation.

We must not overlook indian role in these incidents, they are not going to sit quietly and let it fall in our lap after their decade long efforts and investments.

May i ask you what ghani sab should do?? Hand over the country to taliban?? Or declare afgan as a pakistan colony? What do you expect him to do??

Weren't senior posters like @Donatello @Horus were saying once Karzai goes and Ghani comes, Afghanistan will be Pakistani proxy once again and ditch India? :o:

It seems, Ghani sahab is way more anti-Pakistani listening to his speeches in the last couple of weeks

So RAW bought Ghani too? Good job I would say. BD/ Nepal/ Sl and Bhutan are already bought. Only thorn left is Pakistan. With our agents in MQM, hope to achieve that too very soon.:taz:
