Get ready to welcome the Kid on the block

Tell me one thing, if the responsible guys are responsible and dont nuke the other people, why on earth do they own the nuclear weapons? if they dont use it then they dont need it.

that is because of a need for deterence..... who can guarantee that a similar type of MAD principle ( like between U.S/Russia or U.S /China or China /India or India/Pakistan) can be somehow created between say Iran -Israel or any such new geopolitical scenario.......

regarding your point about Israel ......dont wanna comment about any other aspect of Israeli responsible behaviour but in this case at least we are unlikely ever to see a pre-emptive israeli nuclear strike on Iran or any adversary country in the Middle East......

PS : I am not advocating Japan getting nukes ....but if they do get them , most common people and most International Governments including that of PRC have faith that they would never be used first and offensively ........this is not something that can be said about say Iran or North Korea ....hence the perceived bias against these countries getting nukes as the thread starter pointed out.......

I think its more appropriate to say stable countries as opposed to democratic countries are more suited to possess WMD's, ultimately the people don't actually decide how the weapons are used and by the time its used it will be too late for anyone to be held accountable.

well if you mean countries having a stable domestic political system then I beg to disagree.....but if you mean stability in conducting foreign policy and restraint and pragmatism in international diplomacy then you 've hit the nail on the head.....

and interestingly that criteria is fulfilled mostly by democratic nations ....with basically one notable exception....China...... to be honest .....

It's nice to know that you consider us to be stable/pragmatic with regards to international affairs. :azn:

Regarding Japan getting a nuke, the unfortunate truth is that there is an enormous amount of anti-Japanese sentiment amongst the Chinese people.

Personally I am not bothered about Japan all that much, but MOST Chinese people are, so it could be a tricky situation. Nationalism can often take on a mind of its own.

Faux News propaganda recipe - repeat lies sufficient number of times so it becomes the "truth" in people's mind. Most states are rational enough to not self annihilate including Iran and North Korea. I am never going to buy this crap that a fairly prosperous Iran is actually going to nuke someone. Rouge nuke attacks can only be carried out by terrorist groups who do not have anything to loose. Also, nuclear club is an elitist club i.e. one that resists entry by an upstart, but once the upstart has been around for a few years it will be accepted as part of the club. The current howling in the media is merely a manifestation of this behavior. Just wait a bit and it will die down.

Yes indeed China is a stable nation both politically and economically, among the recognized nuclear power's i will even call china the most responsible nation(in terms of nukes)as it is only nation in that league who have a confirmed "no first strike policy" along with the the non recognized nuke power India

About Japan i can only say that one does not hold any moral high ground to call for disarmament or point fingers at others if they themselves keep nukes
