. .
They could offer some older ones to other nato states (see eg belgium) and replace these with new ones

I don't know what they're thinking in allowing the lines to shut down.Where will that skilled workworce go ?

German experiments in Mid 20th century were promising, just need a little fine tuning...

U-216 are in options or just going for the Chinese ones?
In the mid-2000s, Pakistan began looking at options to expand its submarine fleet with the procurement of additional conventional submarines. Initially the top contenders were France's DCNS, which offered its Marlin-class vessels, and Germany's Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft (HDW), with three Type 214 submarines. DCNS later attempted to increase the value of its bid by offering to supply Scorpene-class diesel-electric boats as well. Although both designs featured AIP, Islamabad chose the more advanced Type 214, and in 2008 HDW's chief executive officer signaled that the contract was "finalized up to 95 per cent." However, the final agreement never materialized because Pakistan felt the conditions of the German export loan were too stringent, and German politicians feared contributing to an arms race in South Asia. [9] This failure led Pakistan to reconsider DCNS as a potential supplier, but France's price was also too high. Instead, Pakistan turned to its long-time defense partner China, which offered AIP-equipped Yuan-class submarines to Pakistan with very low interest rates. In May 2011, the Pakistani cabinet approved the start of negotiations with China for six submarines, although the details have yet to be finalized.

As we know, the Chinese submarine deal is set.

U-216 are in options or just going for the Chinese ones?
U-216 is just a design concept at the moment. WIth Germany's failre to secure the Australian Sea 1000 project, I doubt we'll see this produced. Largest currently in production Geram submarine is Type 218SG for Singapore. That deal, for two submarines plus logistics and crew training, is valued at €1.6 billion, with the first delivery in 2020. DCNS competed to supply 3 submarines to the Singapore Navy for $1.8 billion. So, I figure, it's 0.5-0.6 billion per boat either way.

By comparison:
In April 2015, Pakistan approved purchase of 8 S20 class from China for $5 billion for Pakistan Navy. The deal was finalised on 23 July 2015. In October of the same year, it was revealed that 4 of the submarines will be built in Pakistan, with work beginning in both nations simultaneously. Pakistan's Minister for Defense Production confirmed that the agreement included transfer-of-technology to construct the vessels. On 6 July 2015 Rana Tanveer Hussain, minister of defence production announced two projects for the construction of four submarines in China and four in Pakistan will begin simultaneously. Hussain added that a training centre will also be created at KSEW. In late 2016 it was officially confirmed that China will see about 4 submarines delivered by 2023 and the remainder delivered by 2028.

That's 0.625 billion per boat, including technology transfer and training for local production at KSEW.

As of July 2016, a total of 599 orders have been received with 478 delivered. So there is still 121 jets to be built. In October 2016, it was reported that BAE Systems was in talks with Saudi Arabia about an order for another 48 aircraft

Also, older aircraft will come back in for maintenance, upgrading, modification/conversion. It's a rather complex thing with production batches and all. THis overlap incongurently with aircraft versions
