Berlin: A car bomb killed a driver travelling down a street in central Berlin on Tuesday, police said.
According to reports, the blast was caused by an explosive device "on or in the vehicle".

The incident took place during peak-hour traffic on Bismarckstrasse, within sight of the Victory Column monument, leaving the front of the car severely dented after it flipped over, while debris was strewn a few metres away.

An investigation was being carried out by the police, and forensic technicians were on site to secure evidence.

A curfew was imposed in the area, the police said.

More details are awaited.

Police in Berlin have said they suspect a bomb caused an explosion that killed a man who was driving through the German capital early on Tuesday.

The deputy chief spokesman for Berlin police, Carsten Mueller, told The Associated Press that the explosion occurred at about 8am (7am GMT) in the western district of Charlottenburg.

Berlin police sealed off the area. Bomb experts were also on the scene investigating whether there were any further explosives and officers told residents in the area to stay indoors and keep their windows shut.

Local media reported officials saying that it was not believed to be terror attack but an organised crime hit. The driver is believed to have started the car and drive a few metres before it exploded.

The spokesman said that "investigators are working on the assumption that it was an explosive device" inside or on the vehicle that caused the blast.

He said investigators were still trying to determine the man's identity and could not immediately provide details about the vehicle.

He confirmed that nobody else was injured in the blast despite heavy traffic. Officials said on Twitter that the explosion caused the car to flip in the air.

Photos from the scene showed the wreckage of a silver VW Passat station wagon, its windows blown out and its front end smashed in, about a kilometer (half mile) from the capital's landmark Victory Column.

There was no immediate indication of a motive for the apparent attack.

Michael Merkle, from Berlin police who was at the scene, said he could not comment on the cause as the investigation had just begun.

"We can't say anything about the cause. We are at the beginning of our investigation," he said in comments reported by the BBC.

"Forensic investigators are here, will carefully examine the car, everything will be examined. The homicide division is on site and will take over the further investigation."

It is like mafia killing, they planted a bomb in the car just to kill one person....Anyways as usual refugees will be blamed and demand will rise to throw them in sea.

.
Seems like someone is taking full advantage of refugees crises. The one has achieved the target by doing so as well as drawn the attention towards refugees so the blame could be put upon. However, shouldn't be happened. Hopefully, the real criminals would be brought to justice in this case.

more than 1 million refugees entered without any proper checks. This was bound to happen. More to come. Europe needs to seal its borders and bring back refugees out of Europe to safe places.
