Germany bans exports of arms to Turkey: Bild Am Sonntag

OCTOBER 12, 2019

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Germany has banned arms exports to Turkey as a reaction to the country’s assault on the Kurdish YPG militia in northern Syria, German weekly Bild Am Sonntag (Bams) quoted the foreign minister as saying on Saturday.

“Against the backdrop of the Turkish military offensive in north-eastern Syria, the Federal Government will not issue any new permits for all military equipment that could be used by Turkey in Syria”, Foreign Minister Heiko Maas told the paper.

Germany exported arms worth 243 million euros ($268 million) to Turkey in 2018, accounting for almost one third of all German weapons exports, according to the paper.

. . .
We know that we carry the risk of threatening the interests of some EU countries, in the parts of the Eastern Mediterranean or MENA . We are well aware that there are other sperate reasons not related the Kurds .

This issue is a matter of existence for us and we laid our lives. But How much is EU willing to pay? That is the exact question.

I don't want to write long. Because there is enough information about these issues in the relevant topics.

I just want to say, today, we owe everything we have in the defense industry to the 1974 arms embargo. The foundations of the world's leading Turkish defense companies were laid At that time. (Even if there was a 1980 US-backed coup.)

Now, according to the plan made by Turkey, there is a need for only 15 years. If you're optimistic, you can say 10, if you're negative, you can say 20. But this is a state policy since 2004 SSIK.

Turkey's defence industry policy conducted by these days, quite similar to the French's De Gaulle period in terms of basic policy framework. Localize main systems, and then create vertical specialized fields towards subsystems. Create an ecosystem that is not externally dependent.

What if these countries, which do not already provide a critical system, make such a declaration?

What does your logic say? According to this historical process and the approach of the state?

I do not enter the intelligence sharing, the extradition of European terrorists and the migration agreement which is a very critical issues for Europe.

Europe will not receive any intelligence for anti terrorism, they will have to take their terrorists, who are their own citizens, and will not be able to return the refugees entering their country. Also these country's middle east military / intelligence operations will unable to work ( or under much more difficult conditions ) where the Turkey predominant.

Above all, how will the destruction of NATO's eastern flank change the perception of Europe's danger?

Even in the defense industry, there is a situation against EU , not Turkey. Turkish defense products markets are expanding gradually. We are the fastest growing supplier. And it will not be difficult to find alternative suppliers for subsystems.

Turkey's determination is not an issue open to debate. A proverb says: the little loses little, the big loses big.

Guys... simple rule...German weapon export law prohibits to sell weapons to nations on war (expect NATO alliance case or if operations are under UN decision). This is not the case so no more weapon export...that has nothing to do with butt hurt...simple German law force the politicans to react.

German Exports to Turkey are not worth to mention..in average 60million Euro... the only reason 2018 was 200million ero was NAVY equipment delivered to Turkey.

Oh btw you have to different... Rüstungsexporte and Kriegswaffenexporte... first is everything bought by military ..including boots clothing toiletpaper pensils cars trucks construction material for barracks weapons etc... the second one are only true war weapons like tanks rifels missels etc... the 200million € delivered to Turkey were Rüstungsexperte... including toiletpaper

Can you describe the concept of "war" in the legal framework?

Is there a PKK/YPG state recognized by the UN? Or even the United States, which has given 50,000 trucks of military equipment in 5 years, accepts the connection of this organization with the PKK, do you object?

Or did the TAF cross the American borders?

There is no legal difference that distinguishes this operation from OB or ES operations. Turkey using its legal rights according to UN's 51. article.

Border security and counter-terrorism are the joint responsibility of member NATO states. You can only see the deaths in Turkey caused by the pkk / pyd terrorist organization in the last 5 years.

On the other side, Turkey, doing all sorts of intelligence sharing to Europe for preveting no more bomb explode in EU while accepting all the refugees, what did you do other than increase the concerns of Turkey ?

Are we talking about a crisis of trust? You should know that this is not one-sided as you think.

If you have a secret agenda, explain it.

So , stop making excuses. Be honest.

Germany has issues with turkish operations in syria, but when its was being NATO lackey dropping bombs in syria and arming syrian ISIS rebels against asad's pro iranian regime, it has no issues then. Talk about hypocrisy

And dont forget Germany is still selling Saudi ARabia enough bombs to destroy all of Yemen...

Hang on. Israel ROUTINELY conducts raids into sovereign states under a pretext of security. Discuss.

Israel is a major buyer of German military equipment.

. . .
More than a customer. They have special subsidies, especially in navy projects.
It's quite hilarious. I'd like to hear the krauts defend their position on this. Israel raids Syria with German weapons, no embargo. Turkey raids the same country, embargo. Merkel is an embarrassment to humanity.

Turkey should release the refugees on german border lets see these champions of democracy at work

How will this go over in EU, which is Turkey’s biggest trading partner? Not well. If you want to see Turkey’s economy in a tailspin, them go ahead and release the refugees. Other results could be the rise of Islamaphobia and the rise of right-wing governments all over Europe.

Still think using refugees is a good idea?

germans need to grow back bone and stop beng a push over bullied into attacking turkey on behalf of usa/eu shady capitalist bankers..

Uh, no. Germany is the most powerful country, economically, in Europe. They have the most influence in EU. So why would they give Turkey a break?
