George W Bush had 'sickening feeling' over WMD lack

Anyone see the movie/documentary thingy, "This is War"

@Chogy If Bush was so easily mislead about WMD's then why do Americans see a connection between 9/11 and Iraq war? The Marines in the doc said that they thought of the war as "revenge" for 9.11. WTH?

I've seen it. It was very informative, gave a rare perspective to the war.

The marines were following the president's orders. He states multiple times that it's his job to follow his presidents order and not question them.

The marines had the feeling that they are neutralizing Iraq before Iraq harms their loved ones back home. The fact that Saddam refused to surrender only fueled it further. They were driven in a rage by the events of 9/11, and especially the main protagonist was attached to it because he carried the picture of his classmate who was killed in WTC. Towards the end of the doc, he even admits that they have managed to topple a dictatorship that was no threat to them.

Dude.. What a far fetched logic. Pakistan today knows with certainity that TTP will attack it regulary. Why havent they been able to stop them. Do know that only the attacks that succeed make it to the papers. The ones prevented are never heard of.

You obviously dont know the details of the affair then...

To compare TTP with the Saudis who engaged in 9/11 attacks is silly... These Saudis and M Ata were being regularly watched by the Americans... It makes ludicrous sense to make a list of more than 300 000 Muslims now, not allowing them entry into America for the sole crime of speaking out against American injustice (which if I may add goes against the good American values itself) and not caring about an imminent attack on America by those nutters in Hamburg despite multiple warnings by more than one sources...

For starters watch Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 and see what Anaconda Rice says about this issue...

Well, he's gone now.

I don't believe he was lying, I think he was mislead by those around him. Saddam himself disregarded UN demands and made inspectors' lives miserable. What he was trying to do was a simple deception plan - By pretending he owned a massive arsenal of chemical weapons (where did nukes come into this? Chemicals were the suspected WMD), he was attempting to deter attack.

It's not like he didn't own and use them. He showed no hesitation in slaughtering Kurds and gassing Iranians.

Manslaughter is Manslaughter Chogy... You can give excuses, but it is a matter of great concern to us all if the President of the US simply rolls back and state that he was misled or misinformed on an issue which has been a life and death matter for thousands of innocent people...

Manslaughter is Manslaughter Chogy...

Let me be clear... I was never in favor of a full-scale invasion of Iraq. That said, in 2003, the country was still extremely hot after a series of attacks culminated in 9/11. Whatever the reasoning, Saddam was perceived as a real danger, and the UN agreed on this in many aspects.

We knew he had the capability of producing nerve agents. He used them on his own countrymen, and on Iran. After his disastrous Kuwaiti "adventure", there was a perception that he was out for vengeance. A freighter in New York harbor that delivers a few tons of aerosolized VX or GB would potentially kill hundreds of thousands. And Saddam did NOTHING to dissuade the world that he did not have WMD. On the contrary, he cultivated the perception. He strutted and played to the notion that yes indeed, he had them. The decision was made to take him down.

These people were not running in fear for their lives... they were there to celebrate the toppling, and proceeded to spit and stamp on the many thousands of Saddam images in Iraq.

The majority of the people (non-baathists) were ecstatic.

Baathists, Saddam acolytes, and foreign fighters flooded the nation to fight the infiel, and the rest is history. A good read on the invasion itself: In the company of Soldiers, by Pulitzer-prize winner Rick Atkinson.

Today, the U.S. is split on whether there was a Saddam / 9-11 connection. Most agree there was little to no connection... but that didn't make Saddam any less of a threat.

@Luftwaffe: Chemicals used in Vietnam were Agent Orange (a defoliant) and non-lethal tear agents to smoke VC out of tunnels. We had a huge stockpile of the real deal (organophosphate nerve agents like VX) but they were not used in Vietnam.

No one knew that agent orange would cause health issues. Our own troops operated in those areas after defoliation, and thousands became ill.

Chogy. You do realize that these people in the pictures would hardly number a hundred in total... in a city of more than half a million that is Baghdad...

Just wanted to add that you have said this many times that you were not in favor of this war... I m not directing it to you in your person... Its more a discussion on what America/George Bush did and what were the results of the war eventually...

Man... Saddam (an ex UK and US buddy if I may add when he was buying weapons off the US and France etc to use against Iran)... he was more than 70 years old when hanged... Could nt it have been better to wait for him to die... or get him assassinated... I can never believe that the US went to a full fledge war for the mere purpose of removing just one man from power... That is a no no for explanation...

I can understand though what you are saying... how the American public thought and still thinks about the whole affair...

We always have civil discussions, much appreciated.

The book I mentioned is very good. Written in 2005, it is not propaganda, and the author points out much bad along with good. He also predicted with accuracy what would happen in the next few years. His observation of the Iraqi people (and their reaction to the invasion) and defenses are quite detailed. The reactions of the population varied strongly from town to town, area to area, split along political and/or tribal lines. Some cities were ecstatic, others sullen and dangerous.
