KARACHI: GeoNews Karachi Bureau Chief Faheem
Ahmed Siddiqui was kidnapped on his way to work on
Saturday by men in plain clothes and police uniforms.
He was bound and gagged, assaulted, his property
taken away and was left tied up in Manghopir. According to Faheem Siddiqui, he was hailed by a
police mobile near the Sakhi Hassan Chowrangi as he
was driving to work. Expecting a normal security
check, Siddiqui complied and stopped his SUV. Armed
men in plain clothes then pulled him out of his car and
began to beat him. The men covered Siddiqui’s face with a cloth, bound
his hands and took him away towards an undisclosed
location in his own car. Faheem told GeoNews that
besides the two men (who were in plain clothes) the
rest of them were in uniform and seemed to be fresh
recruits. The men flanking him on either side in the back of his
SUV armed with Kalashnikov rifles continued to beat
him and abuse him as well as GeoNews. Siddiqui said,
he was driven around blindfolded. His abductors demanded he reveal his mobile phone
password and after he complied they made several
phone calls providing updates. Faheem Siddiqui said he was finally left with his hands
tied in Manghopir near the Hub Dam. His abductors left
him in the deserted area and took away Siddiqui’s
licensed weapon, three mobile phones and all the
documents and electronics that were present in his. IG Sindh told GeoNews that an investigation is being
conducted into the incident. He added that they are
trying to ascertain which policemen are involved in
this incident. Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has
taken notice of the issue and has assured an inquiry
will be conducted by the Rangers and the Police. He
stressed that the facts will be brought to light. Nisar made it clear, that it is against the law for
policemen in plain clothes to detain someone. He has
assured that serious action will be taken in light of
Faheem Siddiqui’s abduction. President PUFJ Afzal Butt has given the Sindh
government a 12-hour deadline to ascertain who is
behind this incident and to bring the perpetrators to
justice. Secretary Karachi Press Club, A H Khanzada said the
whole journalist fraternity was deeply concerned over
the incident. He demanded of the government to
immediately ascertain those responsible for the assault
on senior journalist and bring them to book. Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah has taken
noticed of Faheem Siddiqui’s abduction and has
summoned a report from AIG Karachi. The CM has demanded to know who is behind
Siddiqui’s abduction and assault. Investigative committee formed An investigative committee has been formed to look
into the abduction and assault on Geo News Karachi
bureau chief Faheem Sidiqui, said DIG West Feroz Shah. The committee will be headed by SSP Central
Muqaddas Haider and will be comprised of SP Gulberg
and DSP and SHO Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan.

Journalists or these anchors should not think themselves of some kind of holly cow, that no can touch them ever.

If they are breaking the law, they should expect the consequences for that.

Having said that, if a journalist or a common citizen is picked up without breaking the law, then police should be made answerable.

Sounds like that other journalist who was shot and had bandages on his clothes rather than his injured arm/ shoulder depending on which news you read the bullet was moving between arms and shoulders...

For 1 kidnapped case soo many concerned people? What about the decades of kidnapping of Pakistanis in Karachi? Where were all these ministers and position holders?

Nope there werent any bandages in the picture which Geo posted and No they are not gonna make any of those bad comments on our COAS in the near future as what they have paid a great price for it and I noticed they have gone more pro army

Oh I have no problem with whatever....I do however have problems with VIP culture when 1 moron gets kidnapped and RETURNED there is full scale questioning from dead (wont even call them sleeping) politicians to asking every police on the planet to get on the case is disgusting....

IF this was given to the common man I wouldnt mind it for a journalist but not even the basic police is awake when the common man is kidnapped so this really is disgusting!

Yes they have...Even if they felt or known that Army was involved in that matter they shouldnt have made it an huge show what Geo which they did and degraded it on international forum.

I respect your words due to your experience on defence.pk and disscussing and posting threads from past few years but can you explain why you like getting an innocent journalist a victim of our words...Im sure no one likes getting beaten when innocent

One has to 1st acknowledge it is crappy
2ndly there has to be someway to fix it ....
3rdly when it is you scratch my back and i scratch yours there is no one who will want to miss the ape like scratching opportunity or report the misconduct
Next there is no monitoring committee which is independent of political gains coz everyone is for sale..
5thly, in order to fix something one has to initiate the fixing so far many have disappoeared or died just voicing out we need to fix this but no initiation so far

Not sure any media is either a victim or innocent most have produced trash reports others have actually openly accused innocents...

I am not in favour of beating but I am also not in favour or wasting resources on them when no basic resource has ever been used for anyone being kidnapped in any place in Pakistan...
