Dr. Shahid Masood takes charge of Chairman PTV
ISLAMABAD, Jun 21 (APP): Renowned political analyst and columnist Dr. Shahid Masood took over charge of Chairman Pakistan Television Corporation here on Saturday. He will also hold additional charge of Managing Director PTV.
Dr. Shahid, who is a doctor by profession, was the Group Executive Director of Geo Network and served ARY network as senior Executive Director.
He obtained fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons, U.K and adopted medical profession and worked in Pakistan, Ireland and the U.K.
He later got affiliated with media after September 11, 2001.
He got scholarship with CNN from Pakistan in 2005 and extensively carried out coverage of three wars including Afghanistan, Iraq and Lebanon which was keenly watched and admired by the people.
As news analyst Dr. Shahid set new yardsticks and his famous programme “Views on News” for ARY, and more recently “Meray Mutabaq” for Geo network had a large audience in Pakistan and among the Urdu-speaking community around the world.
Dr. Shahid is known for his open and candid views on national and international issues, and his programme “Views and News” had to face government’s restrictions many a times for his critical views on matters of national importance.
After the events of Sept. 11, Dr. Shahid interviewed many renowned people, worth mentioned among these are President Pervez Musharraf, former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, former Baluchistan Governor, Nawab Akbar Bugti and former CIA Director James Wille.
Dr. Shahid has been a critic of international war against terrorism, policies of U.S-led coalition in Iraq and Afghanistan and those of President Musharraf.
It is believed that Dr. Shahid was made to leave ARY under the pressure of the then government, after which he joined the Geo TV.
More recently, Dr. Masood completed his major in International Relations and Defence Studies from the prestigious and historic Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
It is widely expected that appointment of Dr. Shahid will greatly help improve the quality of PTV’s programmes, especially those related to the current affairs, and bring them in line with the country’s aspirations and requirement.
With the election of the democratic government, committed to the freedom of expression, PTV has an important role to play in promotion of democratic norms and harmonious culture in the country.
