Disappointed with these Promotions.

Was hoping that Lt Gen Haroon Aslam and Gen Tariq would get these posts, both veteran in counter terrorism operations. They could have been handy dealing with Talibans.

Prime Minister had the right to choose any one person betweem the list handed over to him and he chose what he deemed best. Your personal likings or dislikings set aside but a competent post of Prime Minister chose a competent leader to run the affairs of thr Army

What happens normally in Pakistan when senior Generals are superceded? Do they immediately resign or continue till retirement?

That would be a matter of personal choice. In the past; PA Generals who were superseded , continued to serve under their juniors.

Lt Gen Raheel Sharif has been appointed Pakistan's new Army chief, the Press Trust of India said on Wednesday.

The post of army chief is arguably the most powerful in Pakistan. General Sharif succeeds General Ashfaq Kayani, who steps down on Friday after six years in the top post.

Lt Gen Rashad Mahmood has been appointed the Chairman, Joint Chief of Staff Committee.

General Kayani's retirement from the post comes after rules were relaxed to grant him an extension in July 2010 by the PPP-led coalition government in what then prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said was in the interest of continuity at a time

btw as he is the brother of Shabir shareef (shaheed) , It will definitely uplift troop morale

no doubt about that - BUT it would have given much better for the frontline troops had their LT been promoted to this seat - for - example Tariq Khan, Haroon ur islam.......
Raheel shareef sb is no doubt a wonder person, because he had a big role to play in drafting new syllabus for our CT and Counter insurgency trainings, but for a common solider, that might not even matter

Gujrat has 3 Nishan-e-Haider Awards out of total 10 awards. Nishan-e-Haider may be translated as emblem of Haider (Hazrat Ali R.A.). It is the highest military award of Pakistan. Following three soldiers ofPakistan Military were recipients of Nishan-e-Haider who belongs to Gujrat.
