TSKHINVAL, October 25. /TASS/. The agreement allowing South Ossetian military to serve in the Russian Armed Forces is expected to be signed by the defense ministries of the two countries by the end of 2016, South Ossetian Defense Minister Ibragim Gasseyev told TASS on Tuesday.

"We've reached understanding on all issues with Russian colleagues. We completed inter-departmental coordination, they are now underway in Russia. After that, we will sign the agreement. We are expecting it this year," Gasseyev said.

He added that the agreement will allow South Ossetian servicemen to serve in the 4th military base of the Russian Defense Ministry stationed in the republic. "It was impossible before. Young officers that graduated from military universities in Russia, may serve at corresponding positions in the Russian army. This is a career opportunity," he noted.

In the framework of the agreement, it is also planned to improve the infrastructure of South Ossetian armed forces. "We also propose to build military towns in order to ensure good conditions for our servicemen. We hope that it will all start in 2017 after signing the agreement with Russia," Gasseyev said.

KLIMOVSK, November 5. /TASS/. The new sniper system for Russia’s special services has passed state trials and is ready for serial supplies, CEO of the Central Research Institute of Precision Machine-Building (TsNIITochMash) Dmitry Semizorov said on Saturday.

"The rifles have successfully passed state tests," Semizorov said, presenting the new rifle to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin. "The work of an interdepartmental commission has been completed," he added.

The first supplies of the sniper system will be carried out for the Federal Protective Service (FSO), a federal government agency tasked with protecting high-ranking state officials. "We have the first order, the first batch is small, it will be used by the FSO forces and we are already working on serial supplies," Semizorov said.

The sniper system, developed for the first time in modern Russia’s history, is equipped with optical sight and a 2km laser ranging device. It is fully based on domestic materials, except for the electronic component base in thermal pointers, he said.

MOSCOW, November 5. /TASS/. Russian Ground Forces’ military intelligence officers will receive the specialized version of the Ratnik equipment, the Defense Ministry’s press service told journalists on Saturday on the occasion of the Intelligence Officer Day in Russia.

"Active work continues in the Ground Forces to equip intelligence units with the newest technical means of intelligence, special small arms, equipment of the new generation," the press service said. They include Orlan and Eleron drones, radiolocation stations and intelligence systems Fara-VR, Sobolyatnik-O and Strelets, as well as "Ratnik military equipment specially adapted for intelligence units," the defense ministry noted.

The Ratnik is a system of advanced protective and communication equipment, weapons and ammunition. It comprises around 40 protective and life support elements, such as bulletproof helmets and body armor, waterproof overalls and hearing, eye, elbow and knee protections among other things. In addition, the Ratnik includes a self-contained heater, a backpack, an individual water filter, a gas mask and a medical kit. Russian Army Commander-in-Chief Colonel-General Oleg Salyukov said earlier that an advanced Ratnik-3 combat gear with an integral exoskeleton and a helmet visor-mounted target designation system is currently being developed for Russia’s Armed Forces.

Russia’s all-new sniper rifle has successfully passed field tests and is ready to enter service, Dmitry Semizorov, director of the Central Scientific-Research Institute for Precision Machine Engineering (TSNIITOCHMAS), told the media, RIA Novosti reported.

“The rifle has already been tested and initial orders have been placed [for their delivery to the Armed Forces],” Semizorov told reporters on the sidelines of a national shooting competition now underway outside Moscow. The bolt-action rifle, aptly called Tochnost (Precision), can fire conventional and armor-piercing bullets. It is built around the T-5000 rifle with more than 200 upgrades.

One such rifle was presented to Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin during the competitions in Klimovsk timed for the November 4 National Unity Day.

Rogozin later wrote on Twitter that the Tochnost rifle was 100 percent Russian-made and that its conventional and armor-piercing ammunition was already being produced in Russia.
