Gen Bajwa engaged with over 80 students of LUMS plus faculty in a wide-ranging talk followed by a Q & A session.

LAHORE: General Qamar Javed Bajwa engaged with around 80 students of LUMS as well as the faculty in a frank talk followed by a question and answer session that lasted over 6 hours yesterday.

The Chief of the Army Staff answered tough questions of students, ensuring that every question was answered and no one was left without asking a question.

Chatham House rules applied to the session which means that the information from the session could be shared however, the identity of the speaker could not be revealed.

On social media, various users attributed this quote to General Bajwa: “If you think I call the shots in the country, then you don’t know who PM Imran Khan is.”

While the authenticity of this quote could not be independently verified, various first-hand accounts from the participants showed how impressed they were with General Bajwa.

Maham Nasir, a teacher at LUMS wrote: “my student: “i don’t know what happened at LUMS yesterday but everyone who went into that session with the COAS was anti-establishment and came out as pro-establishment”.

Meanwhile, Nida Kirmani, another professor at LUMS who had consistently tweeted about the session before it began chose not to attend the session.

Kirmani claimed that all 80 students who attended the session with General Bajwa expressed dismay over the lockdown, however, she was called out by Dr Mohammad Tariq who confirmed there was no lockdown.

Nida Kirmani further claimed that no photographs were allowed however, this claim was debunked by OSINT Insider who shared multiple photos from the event.

DG ISPR, Major General Babar Iftikhar was also present at the session.

Pakistan needed imports back then and Pakistan needs imports today because the Pakistani population increases by around 3.5 million a year.

Why don't you ask the question, why importing back then was bad but importing at whatever rates now is all good?

Strongly disagree, a capitalist rich person would rather die a thousand times than ever become a marxist. Marxists only come from poor and middle-class backgrounds, their reasoning for becoming a marxist is always due to being exploited by the rich and powerful. We must criticize every political and economic ideology where we feel that it must be criticized but to criticize an ideology for being foreign is far from objective criticism. Capitalists mainly support capitalism because he/she has or is benefiting from it. As for the Kirmani part, I believe that we shouldn't make such generalizations due to a person's background, good and bad people can come from anywhere.

Lums and many alike are cancer to this country and its foundations we should openly apprehend those who are anti-state.

Our youth is our future. we cannot let certain institutions be an open breeding ground for treachery.

We need to allow our young generation to ask critical questions. We cannot be a nation of dunces who just toe the line.

As long as discourse is respectful and people get good information out of it, it is all good. The fact is that CoAS visited and engaged with 80 students and faculty means there are 80 individuals in that institution who have a somewhat better understanding of what drives the military thinking. That means you now have 80 people who can at least see the PoV of the military instead of being taken in by a more anti-military narrative.

A lot of this goes on at the NDU. It is actually good that the CoAS visited LUMS. I'd suggest another visit to IBA etc. as well.
