KABUL (Pajhwok): Vice-President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum has been refused an American visa due to the alleged killing of hundreds of Taliban prisoners by his militia, a media report said on Tuesday.

Dostum was eager to visit Washington, which has given Afghanistan billions of dollars in aid since Taliban’s ouster from power in 2001, this month, an influential American newspaper said.

The vice-presidential trip was aimed at discussionwith US administration officials how best to defeat the resurgent Taliban, The New York Times reported. However, the Uzbek leader was barred from visiting the US.

Unnamed Afghan and US officials were quoted as saying the visa denial was communicated to the Afghan government days before Dostum was to leave for New York and Washington.

Subsequently, the Afghan government quietly scrapped the VP’s visit to avoid what the NYT called a “humiliating public spectacle”.Accused of war crimes, Dostum is not welcome in the United States.

Asked about the visa refusal, the State Department said it could not discuss individual cases for privacy reasons. But for years, there has been broad agreement among American officials about The State Department has called him “the quintessential warlord.”

Dostum said in an interview on Saturday he had scrapped his trip due to the tenuous security situation in the country. He also planned to an address a special session of the United Nations General Assembly on drug trafficking.

. . . . .
sh** face basta**,i'll be more than happy if someone first chop off his limbs and then behead him in a stadium----haramzada

. . .
He had 100s of prisoners suffocated inside trucks. Rather inhumane regardless of the victims.

Not only that he ordered his men to fire at the containers with the prisoners inside. He is a number one Pakistan hater. I would rather have him skinned alive. These northern alliance scumbags are no better then the Talibans. With Afghan Talibans, atleast there may be a case of them having some sort of tolerance towards Pakistan, but these northern alliance warlords and thugs are anti-Pakistan to their last bone. ISI needs to hunt these bastards down.

People like him in power instead of in the gallows is the reason why Afghanistan is still a Tajik dominated basket case.

How ironic !

US has been targeted for Human right violations of prisoners lodged at Abu Gharib Iraq and Guantanamo.

Also, the CIA "black sites" all over the world known for illegal detention and torture.

CIA "Extraordinary Rendition" program.

what's wrong in killing taliban
I don't think in reality that is his crime as extra judicial killings may be one of the only ways to deal with a group as violent as the Taliban.

But f you look at his role throughout his life and not in the end when he sided with US you will see he has a very arrogant and combative past and as a warlord is part of the problem in Afghanistan and its fracturing into various ethnic denominations. Dostum was a warlord who killed Afghans only to gain a chunk of the Afghan battleground. Nothing is clear as there is no accountability in such a wartorn country so no one knows how many innocents he actually killed but he has committed many attrocities and is power hungry like all warlords in Afghanistan, succeeding through the effort and toil of others while making palaces for himself. In reality Dostum may have killed many Afghans in infighting amongst these warlords themselves. Infact there have been clashes between his militia and Atta Muhammed Noor

In short the US when it came to Afghanistan it did not dismantle the mujahideen commanders which was a major mistake. They continue to loot the country and fight amongst themselves causing damage to ordinary Afghans. US was criminally involved and could not take action against these commanders as they helped them and allied with them in the invasion of Afghanistan.

He is not a Tajik ;)

BTW there is a generational change coming in Afghanistan, people like him will be history. This is very normal in post-conflict countries where difficult decisions needs to be me made in order to heal the wounds. Rawanda, Sudan, Kenya are good examples of such accommodations.

No sympathy for him or the likes of him but he is reality at the moment but slowly and surely there is a change coming in Afghanistan, where the young generation are questioning people like him.

It will take time but change is coming for sure.

These people got audacity to point fingers at Pakistan in relation to terrorism when their vice president is a war criminal.

I am kinda getting tired of the word " audacity" kinda getting a cliche here in PDF ;)

I have no sympathy for him and the likes of him as they will need to answer for the killings they have done but in the meantime we will point fingers to Pakistan until the likes of Mullah Mansoor take shelter in Pakistan run their terror infrastructure from there. I think being honest with each other will help us in the long run.

I know you will counter this, by mentioning about TTP in Afghanistan the likes of Mullah Radio, I wont bother you with that, so the simplest counter answer to that would be that Afghanistan must target those maggots as well, kill them or hand them over to Pakistan.

Cool ?

What happened to Kabul's efforts to isolate Pakistan? Is this part of it?
