Srinagar: Hardline Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who has turned down an invitation to visit Pakistan, on Friday criticised Islamabad for its Kashmir policy saying it does not "match the aspirations" of Kashmiris.

"The present policy of Pakistan government vis-a-vis Kashmir is not matching the sacrifices and aspirations of the people of Kashmir," he told Pakistan High Commissioner Salman Bashir in New Delhi.

Briefing media about the hour-long meeting between Geelani and Bashir hours before the arrival of Pakistan minister Rehman Malik in Delhi, Hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar said the group's chairman told Pakistan that "Kashmir is not an economic issue or an issue of trade ties but an issue linked to the death and survival of a nation."

"It (Kashmir) is a grave political and human issue," he said adding "trade ties (between the two parts of Kashmir) cannot change the ground reality which is that this bloody line (LoC) has consumed thousands of lives."

Geelani recently rejected the Pakistan invitation and even opposed the visit of moderate separatist leaders led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to the country.

He said Pakistan government and the people of Kashmir are fully aware of our stand. Kashmir is an issue linked to the division of the sub-continent and Pakistan has been supportive to our demand for right of self-determination.

Pakistan IMO should support both Kashmiri people and having good relations with India.

Kashmiri people need to do more than what they are currently doing to achieve freedom.

Somebody forgot to pay his monthly fees :D

Find something worth contributing to this topic. Keep those jokes to yourself, its easy to blame.

This putting your foot on two boats wont help Pakistan.. Either you support Kashmiris or try to have a good relationship with India..

Both can be done, and it has started.

If you are supporting Kashmiris, then there will always a trust deficit from Indian side.. You cannot have a full fledged relationship with a country who is trying to harm you..

Kashmiri help can be done politically. Pakistan needs to abandon however the support for the warfare in Kashmir.

First step to ensure good relationship with India.

For me, we should just satisfy with the land we have with us.. Lets call it a day and have peace!!

That may be the case it seems like going forward.

However, there will always be some support for Kashmir. Kashmiris however need to show to Pakistan the support they require.

Pakistan IMO should have no interest in independent Kashmir. It is simply not in our interest.

Then the best way is that keep the land which is now with each to themselves and allow those Kashmiries who want to be with Pakistan to be migrated to Pakistan's part of Kashmir and those wanted to be with India, stay with our part of Kashmir.

I think there are geographical issues which would need to be settled. No politician from both sides will have guts to come up with the negotiation on territory due to the fear of military/intelligence/other politicians along with some citizens including people of Kashmir. If that doesn't happen, status quo will remain.

Terrorist attacks by intruders is not freedom fight. Kashmiris are happy with current situation. Economy is improving, tourism also.

The number of Indian Army in Kashmir says otherwise.

Its called precaution. Come on Sir, since 1990, over 50,000 people have been killed in terrorist attacks. Indian army has also been found involved in war crimes in many cases. Reducing troops can catch us off-guard.

I am sure such conditions also exist in Pakistan in few regions. Does that mean, that people want independence ?

BTW I am fed up of Kashmir talks since yesterday. I agree to disagree with you. peace.

I will say that conditions are improving in Indian Kashmir. Saying that Kashmiris are currently happy is however something i disagree with.
