Pakistan's Central Power Purchasing Agency's report shows that General Electric's 9HA-Class turbines produced only half of their capacity this August, according to Reuters. Power executives and government officials in the country said the GE turbines had operational issues like long outages and production delays.

GE Turbine Problems:

Bhikki Power Plant, Punjab, Pakistan
The GE turbine problems affected three key plants – Bhikki of Punjab government and Balloki and Haveli Bahadur Shah of the federal government – with a total capacity of 3,600MW that are considered crucial to end load sheddingwithin the ruling PMLN's 5-year term ending middle of 2018.

Consequences For Pakistan:

Pakistan's government is failing to deliver on its promise to end load-shedding this year because of serious issues with GE's 9HA-Class turbine.

"It had terrible consequences because we lost a lot of power which would have come to the grid during the peak summer," Yousuf Naseem Khokhar, a top official in Pakistan's Energy Ministry's power division, told Reuters. "It is now up to General Electric to rise to the challenge and to take care of these issues ... before next summer starts," he said.

Pakistan is recognized as a major growth market for power turbine markers because its booming economy has a well-developed gas infrastructure. General Electric has lost a lot of credibility after its failure to deliver in Pakistan. The country awarded its most recent power contract to Siemens, after bidding by several companies, including GE.

Impact on GE Business:
General Electric claims its 9HA-Class turbines are highly efficient turbines which have secured place in the Guinness World Records of 2016, for the amount of electricity they have produced from natural gas at a power plant in Bouchain, France. The Bouchain plant has had 26 forced outages in the 15 months ending November, according to data published by operator Electricite de France (EDF).

JPMorgan analyst Stephen Tusa has warned GE's Pakistan problems could affect other plants around the world, where GE has already "sold" 30 units. GE dismissed criticism, saying the turbines were merely experiencing setup challenges. But the problem could be another setback in a year of plunging stock and "horrible" third-quarter results for the company whose stock has already suffered a major decline this year.

Summary:

General Electric 9HA-Class gas turbines are not delivering the power Pakistan was counting on to end unscheduled power outages in the country. These problems could hurt election prospects for Pakistan's ruling PMLN party if they are not fixed soon and the party fails and to keep its promise to end electricity load-shedding.

American quality isn't what it used to be honest he.... things are made by really dumb blue collar lazy Trumpian American workers.

Pakistan should have gotten these turbines from a European, Japanese or even Chinese manufacturer.

The only things that are engineered great in USA is military hardware... that's because the American military industrial complex fleeces the American taxpayer $1,000 for a damn screw. ... the gullible populace is oblivious.

Oh bhai please ,Even though we dont like Americans but few things which they have no competition and i truly respect .

1. Metallurgy
2. Turbines and Engine Developments

All other parties are some what 10-15 years behind in this era only Germans comes near to Turbines and Engines rest all are 1 generation behind , Issue which some sources are quoting is the man power which was operating these turbines i can safelt say for one plant but all three in plants are in trouble it appears there is some issue technically and im sure GE will sort it out shortly

Exactly. The Chinese are installing the plant, why not get some nice Chinese turbines to put in it?

Political bastards... :) when they can't delivery no load shed, they dumped the blame on poor turbine by paying few bugs to purchasing agency officer. Good idea.

Exactly the thing I wanted to post....
What the hell is this. All 3 plants consisting of 6 turbines are working on below average capacity even after maintaince.
Even Reuters covered this but no news in our media. Our media is the most useless media. They only follow the hot topics and Karachi weather. That's it.
Our media didn't cover whole country even.
Well who is going to pay for these power plants. Our generation's are going to pay the loans while the politicians do corruption.
How can anybody be so stupid, that even after corruption ,they are not able to run these projects. So are they better then pppp?
I am so much ashamed of my country.
The people are living in worse conditions then dogs and they are contented with the way things are done.
Even in old England, the rich feaudrals, at least feed their poor, as to avoid revolution.
But our leaders don't worry about revolution. This nation would never fight for their right. It can fight among themselves only.
They can be sold at a single qeema wala naan made of donkey meat.
We are a dead nation.

Incompetence and Corruption Is Even Spoiling Any Good Work PML N Intends To Do
That's what I suspect in this particular case.

How please explain... How PMLn destroyed this turbine.

He meant exactly opposite to what you under stood.

Please.. reconsider your opinion. GE is THE god in high power gas turbines.
Which European competitor you have in your mind?
