Gaza won’t affect ties with India, says Israel

. .
Modi govt did the right thing by blocking the resolution. There is absolutely no need to get yourself tangled in something that has nothing to do with you. Besides we have had an important relationship with Israel in the last decade or so. Self interest comes first in geopolitics and passing a resolution against Israel serves no purpose as far as India's foreign policy is concerned. Having said that, I think Indians should tone down Israeli cheerleading that I have observed in the past few weeks. It's getting ridiculous and way over the top. It's similar to Pakistanis cheerleading for China. Have some self respect. No Israeli would reciprocate such behavior.

Actually the change in our policy came in 2012 only under the UPA rule. It's just that the opposition is acting like a b!tch and trying to appease it's customer(vote bank).

However, according to experts, the shift in official statements came not with the Modi government, but in fact, in 2012. Former diplomat and UN official Chinmaya Gharekhan, who was Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s special envoy to West Asia and the Middle East Peace Process, told The Hindu, “There is no doubt that India’s position on the Israel-Palestine conflict has moderated gradually over a period of time, from its once categorical support for the Palestinian cause.” Mr. Gharekhan says the game-changer in this regard was Israel’s assistance to India during the Kargil war, when it supplied much needed artillery shells at short notice. “It was gratitude for this act and our growing defence relationship with Israel that made the difference in later years. Even at the UN, while we still support statements in favour of Palestine, we no longer co-sponsor such resolutions.”

Ministry of External Affairs statements since 2000, accessed from their website prove the case beyond doubt. While all statements from 2000 to 2009 (see graphic) clearly “condemn” Israel for its aggression during each conflict, they don’t mention attacks from Gaza. However, in 2012, under the UPA government, the MEA statement, for the first time, dropped the word ‘condemn’, and instead said, “We are deeply concerned at the steep escalation of violence between Israel and Palestine, focused around Gaza,” calling for a resumption of dialogue between both sides.

For Hamas ,its OK but why death to innocent Palestines?
They are Civilian like us.
Long Live Palestines too.
Well said.

Folks, in our zeal to support Israel, let us not condemn the regular Palestinians. The Hamas are the terrorists, not the average Palestinian. Let us hope they both live and propser.

Palestine is going nowhere....

and neither is Kashmir or the people of both regions
Actually, things are in motion to change the demography of Kashmir. So things are changing on that front.

Not exactly. Israel is a extremely oppurtunistic state, and for now we are friends. I hope we become reliable friends in future.
The only reliable is Russia.

they don't have choice. ..they are living between a pack..

I agree. Thats what explains their "helping" mindset though I can never tell its wrong from their point of view.
They need a big country such a neutral nation like India supporting them, and situation of kargil war was tailor made for them to extend the friendship hand.
Their Mossad is very active in India ( it is active throughout the world for a reason). We can learn from each other to a great extent.
