Gaza has been under siege/occupation for multiple decades now. Israel in 2005 effectively separated Gaza from the West Bank and imposed a land and sea blockade. The Palestinian people were subjugated to massive invasions in 2006, 2009, 2012 and now 2014 which has claimed the lives of thousands of Palestinians. In 2012 the situation began deteriorating severely as it was in 2007 and on. It reached the point where Israel even counted the calories of residents in Gaza trying to limit their daily life to struggling for a nutritious diet.
Israel used 'calorie count' to limit Gaza food during blockade, critics claim | World news | theguardian.com
.................
In 2013 after Morsi was ousted, Egypt/Israel had launched a crippling blockade on Gaza which led to 50% plus unemployment and lack of any goods/materials coming into Gaza. This was a plan to launch a war to try destroying the resistance(Hamas/IJ/PFLP/NSB/Aqsa brigades). In 2014 Israel began attacking Gaza in early June until they officially announced an 'operation' which was much worse than 2006 Lebanon/2009 Gaza combined. Israel used the most firepower against civilians it has ever used. Tens of thousands of homes were destroyed.
Israel/Egypt were hoping Gaza would surrender in July 15 in their scam unilateral cessation of fire which Gaza wasn't consulted for and there was no truce to removal the blockade. This was an attempt to justify further Israeli assault and it worked for the meanwhile. However, the courageous people of Gaza and it's resistance of 15,000 men vowed to struggle until our rights are met.
Israel then tried many barbaric terrorist actions such as these:
UN voices outrage over Gaza school strike - Middle East - Al Jazeera English
Israeli strike kills four children on a Gaza beach - The Washington Post

16 Gaza medics killed in Israeli operation: Official

Israel attempted a ground invasion but couldn't get past the outskirts even while using as much indiscriminate fire as it possibly can:
.............
Even after this, Gaza refused to surrender to more brutal occupation. And Egypt was forced to propose a cease fire for Gaza which Israel rejected.
So Egypt gave up and presented a proposal(Same one today) which Israel rejected at first and is now accepting:

Israel rejected it a week ago, now Israel has been forced to accept it due to the will of the Palestinian people after 50 days of Israeli onslaught. It was the same truce.
A seaport, airport will be discussed. All borders will be opened and electricity crisis in Gaza will be solved.
Gaza offshore Gaza reserves won't be touched by Israel.

Egyptian Foreign Ministry Statement
Egypt has called on the Israeli and Palestinian sides to engage in a comprehensive ceasefire, coinciding with opening the crossings between Gaza and Israel to achieve the expedited entry of humanitarian aid, materials for reconstruction, fishing into 6 nautical miles, and the continuation of indirect negotiations between the two sides over other issues in one month from the beginning of the ceasefire.
