Gandhi the real Gandhi. EXPOSED!

What is this? Bash India and Indians day?

If anyone is really truly interested in knowing about Gandhi and why eminent people around the world consider him one of the greatest leaders of history, you'd spend less time on cheap websites and more reading some good books about him.

I can understand that being Pakistani adds some spin to the whole thing, but calling him an evil scumbag is just ridiculous.
His legacy and life is just too great to be knocked around this way.

Asim,

Demand for Purna Swaraj was made in 1929.. at the time the word or idea of Pakistan was not even invented If I remember correctly.

Instead of blaming Gandhi alone, one must examine the egotistical clashes b/w the 2 brown sahibs and Sir Syed Ahmed Khan How can Muslims be ruled by Hindus??kind of a thinking which was quite prevalent amongst the Muslim Bourgeois. The role of British too cannot be undermined, they had already partitioned Bengal some 30 odd years before independence. Why did Jinnah leave Congress to join Muslim League is something which we might never know, but looking at it from a Pak PoV he was God sent but I beg to differ.

In any case Pakistan was envisaged as a homeland of Indian Muslims... not a homeland of foreigners.. Muslims and Hindus of Subcontinent cannot be two different nations/peoples for they have a common origin, the only difference is both practice different belief systems to meet their spiritual aspirations. For Pakistanis to now diss India and Indians is quite self-deprecating as changing religions doesn't beget one a new nationality IMHO.

Ashfaque this forum presents Indians and Pakistanis a unique opportunity to interact, let us all clear our doubts here rather than keeeping ourselves to our respective community forums, to this end allow everyone to post.

Having said that exchanges must influence and spread light over the veil of darkness else it is a frivolous, egotistical debate. A Pakistani should realize that no matter whatever he reads, an unbiased Indian is a better representation of the facts and vice versa.

I particularly have learnt quite a few things from both the Indians and Pakistanis and particularly thanks to AM, I have had to invest in a new dictionary.

I do not know why few of members in this forum trying to defend Gandhi with Madarsa educated people. Misinformed people can say bad to GOD so what?

I request all Indian's stop defending Gandhi in this thread.

I'll second that; the only thing that this thread has exposed is how wonderfully malformed are the cerebral hemispheres of some of our fellow posters.

I have questioned Gandhi immensely for all that he is known, but there is a manner in which this is done. I, nevertheless, do believe that he is worthy of being a Mahatma (Mahan: Great + Atma: Soul).

One more thing, drinking cow urine is beneficial to health.

Lol

he really needs favour and who better then You ..

by the way all these facts are already given by Gandhi himself in his autobiography My Experiments with truth .. Lol
Greatness of gandhi was his ability to accpet his mistake and learn from it . thats why he was called mahatma by whole world ..
you proved all the great minds of this world wrong

:) SO if Gandhi himself accpeted all the ills he was having or practicing then why to oppose posting of the same on the forum ??

Nobody opposes questioning of Gandhi; there is, however, a way to go ahead with it.

Janaji,

Mahatma's autobiography is available free online, though if you have regard for copyrights then you can buy one too.

Gandhi was a man not afraid to admit his mistakes and diligently worked to rectify them. He mentions having certain problems initially in his young age but none which doesn't affect all of us; he is an inspiration not because he admitted his mistakes but because by sheer will and Perseverance was able to surmount them and be an example to us all.

He was a man on the right side of righteousness and never once swayed from his beliefs or ideals. If all Indians become a 100th part of what Gandhi was then no Indian would yearn for a paradise.

He is an ideal for not only Indians but for the whole of mankind.

No matter what the very knowledgeable Mr. Roadrunner says it was only because of Gandhi that we got this independence and since have become an example for the world and have progressed and even surprassed our previous master.

Indian Independence is borne out of strength not of weakness. It is easy to hold a gun, hide behind bushes and shoot your enemy, or to take a pen and paper and write articles but it takes a great soul to influence the people to thump out their chest and with their head held high to take blows from the enemy without ever entertaining thoughts of retribution, revenge or violence.

Such examples can only emanate from this holy land of the brave. I cannot imagine that how could have such great souls lived only a generation or two back that had such strength to endure what they endured. Salutations to them.

Even though there were hinderances placed in by Gandhi, especially when the Pakistan demand came in, you cannot say that without Gandhi it would've happened much quicker.

Why not? Would Bangladesh have gotten independence without violent revolution? Or would Greece have got independence from the British without violent uprising?

Non violence was just a bogus herring that prolonged colonialism and kept a whole population pacified. If Gandhi was not an agent of foreign colonial powers, he did a good job indirectly. .

He managed to at the very least antagonize the British in the eyes of the Indians. He really didn't full fledgedly demand for full independence till Jinnah wanted a Full independent Pakistan which was wrong.

In the eyes of the Indians he did. I thin the British were very clever, and manipulated Gandhi into such a figurehead (perhaps he would have achieved such status, but not necessarily). But had Gandhi not come along, you can be sure the British would have been facing many Sepoy Rebellions.

Also note, that his antics, dramatic symbolizations, led Jinnah to get frustrated by him and actually break away!

Jinnah himself thus was a by-product of the good and the bad of Gandhi.

Well, Jinnah was political and not involved hugely in obtaining independence from the British (correct me if I'm wrong). Gandhi is trumpeted in the west as some messianic genius that could fight wars by being a disobedient school kid. This is utter baloney. Gandhi's philosophy that "an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind" is music to the ears of an idealist paciifist, but the reality is that the non-violent will always get exploited..and this is what happened to the subcontinent when Gandhi came about.

Malang ji i dont comment on leaders of the past much as i feel without much knowlege i dont consider myself as an authority to comment thats why i refrain from doing so unless i have a good stuff to defend what i say about leaders like these.

I dint read what RR said but in context of your post let us face the truth and speak the truth that its not the Independence of India rather it is the independence of Sub-continent which led to indpendence of India and Pakistan as two separate countries.

And the movement for Independence of Sub-Continent was initialy launched by Muslims.

And the point when Mahatma Gandhi and Qaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah took the lead was made possible due to that same movement which was latter also joined by Hindus but initialy it was launched by Muslims.

Its such a pitty that Indians try not to give Muslims their due appreciation for mainly leading the Independent movement or what the Britishers called Mutiny.

ashfaque and GHATAK,

Kindly let the people discuss this topic when they want to. If it hurts your feelings dont click it. This thread is open for discussion and debate.

Even though thats not how may be it was started for (that has been fixed).

It wasn't because of Gandhi that the subcontinent got independence. Thank Hitler for weakening the Europe that held the colonial reigns over the subcontinent.

Lol. That's utter bull. It takes a brave person to trade shots with a marksman 100 metres away, or to lead a charge under fire to take enemy posts.

It takes quite a stupid person to stand and wait to be shot.

The greatest bravery is when a person refuses to defend himself on principle even when the worst violence is inflicted upon him.

Its easy to inflict pain. To bear pain is hardest.

To remain calm and composed in the face of injustice is the biggest gift a person can have. Its easy to lose your cool and go berserk. However, to use your mind effectively, you have to control your anger and emotions.
