Iran can again be paradise if they start bending fences with west. Iran even today is certainly more beautiful than the artificial arab countries.

The income disparity in Iran is indeed great, but as a whole the infrastructure is pretty good. For example take the metro. It's practically free to use it's so cheap (one of the cheapest in the world if not the cheapest) and all the stations are very modern and clean (and this isn't just in Tehran, 5 cities are building a metro at the same time). It's much better to be poor in Iran than in many other Asian countries, but as you say, these pictures in this thread don't tell the whole story.

Tourists also come to Iran in large numbers, but the vast majority come for religous purposes and are shias from surrounding countries. We do have some Western tourists too though. I followed this Ausie guy's blog as he travelled in Iran with his wife. According to he himself Iran has become his favorite travel destination in the world.

Per capita, yes.

And that was because our population increased at an insane rate in a short time while Iran was at war and while we were recovering in the 90's. As a result highways weren't built and nothing went into transportation infrastructure. In 2000's we finally started expanding the highways, building metros different cities, widening roads etc...

The rates will quicly come down once the highway network expands. Iran is also a big azz country and it takes time to build highways when you don't have much money to throw around.
