Furious IAS officers protest against Durga Shakti Nagpal's suspension

Oh i did not knew sonia Also did something good for the nation

Whatever may be my reservation for Sonia and the Nehru clan, I appreciate her writing this to the PM.

Dear Prime Minister,

It is reported that Ms Durga Shakti Nagpal, a young IAS officer of UP has been hastily suspended for unsubstantiated reasons. There is widespread concern because the officer, in the course of her public duty, was seen to be standing up to vested interests engaging in illegal activity.

We must ensure that the officer is not unfairly treated. At the same time, this particular instance has highligted the need to assess whether there are adequate safeguards in place
to protect executive functionaries working beyond the average call of duty to uphold the law.

The implementation machinery must feel that the conditions are conducive to the delivery of public services without fear or favour. I know that some good beginnings have been made towards administrative reforms, but the issues that have come to be profiled in Ms Nagpal's case also need focus.

With regards,

Yours sincerely,

Sonia Gandhi.

I just don't understand what do our countrymen in that state see in SP or BSP for that matter.

They have ruined the state one after another and still they manage to come to power.

One erects elephant statues, another shouts secoolarism and dismisses IAS officers (the most respected kind in sarkari circles).

lols my native place is UP dude and believe me there castism is the biggest problem. See Dalits and other lower castes will always vote for BSP and Yadavs as well as Muslims will vote for SP no matter what. And rest of the voters will vote to the candidates from their caste, no matter from which Party. But I believe now, the new generation is a bit saner and can bring some change still it will take some time.

Lets see what happens...am not going to trust Sonia or Manmohan until they take some concrete action .....

Ill prey these Pathetic politicians go to hell after they die...every day ill prey

Caste politics happens in most states of India.

Politicians are somewhat like their constituents, they will have to change.

Muslim Groupe Vows Support To IAS Officer Durga

Aug. 3 -- Muslims in Greater Noida have vowed support to suspended IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal, a move that could cause embarrassment to the Akhilesh Yadav government.

A Muslim social group, Hazrat Saiyad Bure Shah committee, of Greater Noida's Dankaur area has written to the chief minister and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh demanding that Durga's suspension be revoked.

"Some local politicians are trying to disturb peace in the region by sending a wrong message that a mosque had been demolished. The truth is that IAS Durga Shakti Nagpal only discharged her official duties by halting illegal construction on government land. Durga was only implementing the rule of law following orders from her bosses. She deserves accolades for that," said Kadir Khan, secretary, Hazrat Saiyad Bure Shah committee.

"All communities in Kadalpur are living together in peace. Durga did not demolish any religious structure. The villagers had themselves razed the wall built on government land. Local Samajwadi leaders gave wrong information to CM Akhilesh Yadav and got an upright honest women officer punished. She should be encouraged and honoured instead," said Khan.Khan said they would launch a protest from August 5 if the government did not revoke Durga's suspension.

That is where the problem lies -- the bolded part.

Why? Why no matter what?

Aren't you lot seeing your state become more and more medieval as the days go by?

Don't you guys want to progress and come back to this century?

Rampant infrastructure (the not-needed types) is not the only solution; there is a whole set of ecosystem required to be created to progress.

As I said: You guys seriously need to change your mentality. You're technically the richest state resource wise and you're also the most backward right now.

Isn't that embarrassing to you as a UPite?

So much potential is there in your state and yet your people waste it away playing the Bollywood-masala style politics.

Centre in touch with UP Govt on IAS officer suspension issue: PM | Business Line

New Delhi, Aug 5:

As the Uttar Pradesh Government charge-sheeted IAS officer Durga Sakhti Nagpal, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said that the Centre is in touch with the State authorities on the issue and that the laid down rules will be followed.

“We are in touch with the State Government to find out the full details of the issue,” he told reporters outside Parliament House ahead of the start of the Monsoon Session.

He also said that the laid down rules to deal with such cases will be followed. “There are rules laid down and the rules will be followed,” he said.

The Centre had yesterday asked the UP Government to immediately give a report on the suspension of Nagpal, who had cracked down on sand mafia in Gautam Budh Nagar area.

Minister of State for Personnel V. Narayanasamy said that this is the third such letter sent to the State Government so far after the 2010-batch IAS officer was suspended on July 27.

The Centre’s fresh reminder came in the backdrop of Sonia Gandhi, who is the Chairperson of National Advisory Council (NAC), writing a letter to the Prime Minister, saying that Nagpal should not be “unfairly treated’’.

“We must ensure that the officer is not unfairly treated,” Gandhi had said in her letter to Singh, who holds the charge of Personnel Ministry.

The UP Government had yesterday served a charge-sheet to the IAS officer.

Nagpal, the 28-year-old SDM of Gautam Budh Nagar, who led the crackdown on sand mining mafia in her district, was suspended on July 27 ostensibly for ordering the demolition of a wall of a under-construction mosque allegedly without following the due process. Nagpal belonged to the UP cadre.

Sources said that the charge-sheet, which is believed to be running into 10 pages, was prepared based on a report of the Commissioner (Meerut Division). It is being reported that the officer has got 15 days to respond to the charge-sheet.

The Akhilesh Yadav government is in damage control mode over the Durga Nagpal suspension now. However, nothing seems to be going right for the SP government as it fights with its back to the wall on the issue. What would be specially worrying for the beleaguered UP chief minister are reports of common people coming out on the streets in several cities across the state to vent their anger against the government’s allegedly indiscreet step. :yahoo:

A special force to check illegal mining activities in the state has been announced, an inquiry has been ordered into the statement of SP leader Narendra Singh Bhati who had boasted about getting the lady IAS officer suspended, and advertisements are being given out in newspapers to refurbish the image of the Akhilesh regime.

But for the time being these tactics do not seem to be working. Popular support for the suspended IAS officer seems to be growing by the day. On Saturday, common people demonstrated in several cities, including Lucknow, Allahabad, Kanpur, Gorakhpur and Meerut, against the SP regime. A similar extempore protest was also reported at the Surajpur collectorate in Gautam Budh Nagar.

Meanwhile, Akhilesh Yadav in his capacity as UP SP president has constituted a committee to look into the statement made by senior party leader Narendra Singh Bhati about Durga’s suspension. But the move is not likely to convince anyone as the panel consists Bhati’s brother Vijendra, too, apart from three other party leaders from west UP.

Narendra Bhati was seen on TV channels boasting that he got Durga suspended in a matter of minutes, though he later blamed the media for “distorting” his statement.

Minister of state for mining (independent charge) Gayatri Prasad Prajapati has said the government is considering a proposal to set up a new force to check illegal mining activities in the state :disagree:. The minister said fresh recruitments would be done and those employed would be trained and also given latest arms to combat the mining mafia.

On Saturday, there were full-page advertisements in most mainstream dailies touting the welfare schemes rolled out under the SP regime in an obvious bid to refurbish the Akhilesh government’s image which has taken a beating over the suspension episode.

The SP government even got a prominent Muslim cleric to endorse its stand on the IAS officer’s suspension. “The suspension was a correct decision,” said Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali, Naib Imam of Lucknow and member, All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB). ( Paid off )

Meanwhile, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi has written a letter to prime minister Manmohan Singh asking him to find ways to intervene and put an end to the unfair treatment meted out to the suspended IAS officer.
