Do people seriously believe this? I mean there is no real ally for US. There are only three kinds of countries for US. Lackeys that serve US interest, enemies and neglectable countries like African countries. The first one is not a choice for a country like China. Which is too big and too proud.

If China was a country with democratically elected leaders and still remained a rival to the US for global power, it would be still be described as authoritarian or at best a "non-liberal" democracy that must be defeated.

Iran is an electoral democracy but it is described as authoritarian because it is a geopolitical rival and is not liberal.
