What's new

From economic miracle to IMF bailout in two months, what happened to Bangladesh?

you plagiarist, you! give a reference to where you got this from.

anyhoo Pakistan has always had far too many crooks. it is essentially more hindu banya than Muslim in its mindset.

there was a time when Gen. Ayub khan (and amreeka) tried to industrialize it. land was granted huge amounts of loans were made. when the time for accounting came it was discovered that it had all been stolen by waderas, bankers, patwaris/gardawars/tehsildars and muhajirs.

when attempts were made to recover the stolen land and cash, they trotted out Fatima Jinah to discredit and topple the gormint
However, many of big industries in BD were built when Ayub Khan was the President. He had good intentions. But, neither the govt in the east or west could create systems to stop looting at the expense of their govt or population.

When a country can set up strict rules, the looting stops. Ours is a system without a kind of fishing net. All fish, small and big, get away without a hindrance.

The previous finance minister Miftah Ismail seems the best trained economist in Pakistan today
Structural problems exist in every. Country . I think u have no idea if pakistan starts including its informal economy it would dwarf Bangladeshs figures.and then noone considers Bangladesh recently rebased their gdp figures
Do oil consumption figures support Bangladesh's claim of higher per capita income than India and Pakistan?

Miftah the best trained..bhuhahah.

Wish Bangladesh success in coming out of it, bad patches comes and vanish.

"Informal economy" is dominant in any cash-based society - it is not exclusive to Pakistan.
If your economy was so strong to "dwarf BD's", you would be sitting on 100s of billions worth of reserves and export earnings.

you are right my friend BD trumps pk in almost all metrics (GDP/ Capital, HDI, life expectancy, education, participation of women work force, daily calorie intake per capita, poverty etc.)
Ya just like they received overtook you in cricket?
Btw didn't know age expectancy gender gap and daily calorie is all to compare between two states.

This is the reason for the backwardness of PK, lack of comprehension and basic reasoning skill

I quoted statistics and you pointed a data point, there is a difference between reality and an exception

These kids simply do not understand a sh1t about pakistan . In pakistan since we have 18th amendement and now all wealth go to provinces by number of their population. that is why every province trying to increase fake numbers in population count .this make gdp per capita lower then real .in other hand bd gov showing less numbers in population and chanting high gdp per capita . If it was up to provincial govs of pakistan they have wrote 200mn people in each province .try to learn basic shit please.

Will all Pakistani politicians leaping praise onto Bangladesh and citing it as a role model swallow their own spit?

Pakistan started the process of "deindustrialization" early in its economy. It seems that the proportion of the tertiary industry in the economic structure is high, showing a consumption driven "post industrialization" state. In fact, the main industrial categories and consumer industries are closely related to agriculture. In the case of low level of agricultural modernization, Pakistan's economy is still in a state of "eating from the sky" to a large extent. For example, the statistics of the Ministry of Finance of Pakistan show that agriculture contributes 19.2% to GDP, providing employment opportunities for about 38.5% of the labor force. More than 65%~70% of the population live on agriculture, which is closely linked with the secondary and tertiary industries and plays a key role in stimulating the economy, but is still restricted by climate, temperature, water shortage, precipitation changes, etc. At the same time, Pakistan's manufacturing industry is not fully developed, and it occupies a low-end position in the global industrial chain and value chain. Economic growth lacks momentum. Inadequate employment and insufficient labor force constitute a two-way constraint on economic development. Moreover, the local manufacturing industry is underdeveloped, most industrial products rely on imports, and the ability to earn foreign exchange through exports is poor, which leads to frequent balance of payments crises, and the macro-economy is vulnerable to external shocks.
Bangladesh has a single economic structure and relies heavily on natural gas and diesel for power generation. 63% of its electricity comes from natural gas. 10% comes from diesel and 25% from India. The infrastructure is relatively backward, and the cost advantage is lost in the competition with Vietnam due to the impact of energy prices. Bangladesh clothing orders plummeted by 30%.
As a result of the increase in world currency interest rates, countries have suffered from devaluation of their own currencies, as well as the rise in energy and food prices caused by the war between Russia and Ukraine. All countries are facing difficulties in their economies, so we should not blame the government too much.It should also be noted that ASEAN and other regional economic alliances have played a role in maintaining independence and resisting economic risks.

Bangladesh should be getting hydro power soon from Nepal and Bhutan, I believe this is still happening. Can anyone confirm this?

Same could be said of your understanding of Bangladesh.

Since we are using anecdotal references as proof - then I can say with full confidence that there is no population number fudging going on in Bangladesh. There's been decades of effort from preceeding governments dating back to 80s to ensure proper planning. Lessons about familiy planning being bombarded across all available mediums be it general education, news or even entertainment. The result of this decades long initiative is that average Bangladeshi family size is smaller, mostly contained to 2 children now.

I get all these threads are making you feel good in some twisted way. To each is own, I am not judging.

But at least don't fall to the level where you try to discredit everything and anything.

But no one is allowed to call out this blatant lie. In Pakistan recently politics over the Dhaka debacle has taken to the limelight owing to populism

Yep 500MW from a Nepalese Indian built hydroelectric power station will flow from 2026. Purchase agreement has already been signed.

BD also has interest in a investing in another 683MW hydroelectric project from Nepal.

It looks like BD wants to import around 20% its total electricity via India from 2030 in order to give it access to cheap and clean power.
