Prostitution should be banned, i believe that there should be nationwide crack down on drug smuggling/trafficking, human trafficking, prostitution and other corrupt underground businesses that are being run throughout Pakistan with the hand of many powerful people involved as well.

If we can't eliminate corruption at grassroots level then forget about this nation even progressing. People complain about corruption and bad leadership yet these same people go to brothels run by corrupt leaders, hypocrisy at its best!!

15,000 Hmm... thats nothing.

The most expensive in the whole region + ME is Iranian.

Possibly around 25K +

but worth it as I have been told by many.

That would be a low estimate, I guess. There are at least 85000 ****** in Teheran alone.

How to spot a Persian prostitute. - Slate Magazine

Streetwalkers in chadors.

Back in 2002, the Iranian newspaper Entekhab estimated that there were nearly 85,000 prostitutes in Tehran alone.

Jasmine’s story is by no means a universal one, and the vast majority of women trapped in this profession certainly don’t have such a blasé attitude about it. But it seems that, as opposed to the West, where organised gangs of traffickers trap women into sexual slavery, the foreign prostitutes working in Pakistan are here on their own, drawn by the financial rewards their exotic origins offer them. A senior police official whom I know well tells me there are at least 8 such rings functioning in Karachi alone, with approximately 90 prostitutes in total. The girls are mostly from Russia, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, and Turkey. Each and every police official I speak to about this — and I am friendly with quite a few — tells me they know about it but aren’t really bothered about taking any action. Given the benefits this arrangement probably offers them, it’s easy to see why they wouldn’t be bothered.

Is this article supposed to portray Pakistan in a good way? Or is he trying to advocate feminism by saying working girls should be financially independent? Why is he generalizing on the basis of one story which may of maybe not be true? Is the author saying that a country that has has the third worst track records regarding women rights is actually sex slavery free? And a good place for foreign ******?

The most important question:what has the journalist been up to after he was done with his 3 minute interview? He probably paid for an hour or more.:cheesy:

cant they just employ them as cooks, or care-takers or something like that?

these women speak Urdu now; cant they work at a restaurant? There are many nice restaurants in Karachi, why not work there???

so many options for them....the police arent breathing down their necks, nor are immigration officials

Dude, its all about the money.. Doing what they do, they make more in a day than what a restaurant job will give them in a couple weeks.. And once you get used to easy money, its difficult getting out..

prostitution is very rampant in shia dominated countries like Iran , Azerbaijan and Bahrain! Infact prostitution is probably Irans largest export

Shia faith allows short term marriages ( called Seeghay or Mutaa) and the period can be a year or a month or a week or even few hours. It is appropriate for divorced or widowed women and it is according to their faith a way for them to sustain themselves.

So some Shia ladies may use that as a religious permission to prostitute themselves.

It is a very sad situation.

Also keep in mind that they probably don't keep all the money. They have to pay their brokers and also Law Enforcement personnel who get a cut. Pakistani police gets paid so these people can operate their illegitimate business.

All in all this is not good for the society.

Prostitutes, no matter where they are from, are bad influence on the society. Unless legalized completely, this profession shouldn't exist because it doesn't help the economy and it's not like these girls cannot do anything other than rent their v*****.

No one in sane mind would consider prostitution as a good profession, but it has become economic engine of certain nations on top is Thailand.

.
Never thought i'd hear that from you.

I am starting to be a middle age part of society.
I know enough people, and some times we don't have exact control on what is told to us.

That would be a low estimate, I guess. There are at least 85000 ****** in Teheran alone.

Leave out the theoretical crap.
Prostitution is an evil, and must be stopped at whatever cost.

Some thing that always troubles me is that the Taliban, Jamat-e-Islami and others never ever target the prostitutes.
Why is that ?
