What's new

French girl strips atop sacred Uluru , sparks Australia wide outrage .

That French girl is OK. Nothin wrong with taking your clothes off on top of a big rock. I used to be a tour guide in Kakadu, trust me when I say EVERYTHING is sacred to the aboriginals. Not a bad thing tho, aboriginals are as much part of the environment as any animal is(well they used to be up until about 100 years ago anyway)tens of thousands of years of culture and tradition are not broken easily.
If french girls did strip at mosques and churches id start being religious tomorrow.
The girl should have respected Aborigines' culture and faith beliefs. They are Australian nationals and therefore she perhaps unknowingly hurt their culture. If she wasn't aware of the cultural sensitivity, it'd be really appreciable if she apologized to the community and therefore clear the unintended negativity.

People like you have given Australia the name of a Racist society , Australia belongs to Aboriginals , dont get me started on the history.

The Uluru is owned by Aboriginal community and is leased to Australian Park society.

I dont know how open your mind is about respecting someone's religious beliefs or you just are another bigot with blind hatred for everyone except for yourself.

I am sure your parents matter to you but they dont matter as much to me so i cannot understand how would you feel if i strip naked infront of them-fine , but when i do know that it will offend you severely then what is the point for me to do such a stupid act?

I dont give a damn about if someone's religious or not but i do care about respecting everything that may matter to someone in some way.

I've noticed the same thing. About six years ago I was doing some photography in a French restaurant near D.C. when one of the customers in a group from the French embassy fell ill. They left it to the management to call an ambulance and see her off: nobody accompanied her and everyone else from the embassy continued with their meal without further ado.

(You would think European diplomats would have a better idea of what constitutes ill manners in their host country, wouldn't you?)

Too much socialism is my guess. People get used to government taking care of everything, including sympathy for and sensitivity towards fellow human beings.

you cannot generalize with this experience
they are some selfish people in any part of the world.

socialist? in some way yes in some way no
nothing to do with a communist country
some people live in the street here: you think that the 10% people living under poverty line... they are too much helped?

Really? Dont see anthing ive written as racist. You dont need teach me about Aboriginal history I have taught it to many people and completed a couple of courses.
And yes of course the aboriginals deserve respect. I respect them highly.
The act of striping is a conservatives point of view that its an act of disrepect, not an aboriginals view. Aboriginal people have picked up on it that act because it was given worldwide exposure. If it was up to the aborignals nobody would be allowed to climb the rock.
And no, she, me, you or anybody does not have obligation to repect another persons view or culture. Some cultures have some very questionable acts through history. Eg. Alice Springs aboriginal culture allowed for the aboriginal women to be shared around the men for favors, apoligies, tribe friendships. I could write pages of aboriginal stuff that happens to this day I do not respect.
I dont care what you choose to believe in, if you choose to believe it it fine, just dont expect me or anybody else to believe in it also

**Oh and EDIT BlackBlood- why the hell are you calling me racist when on the first page of this thread you write "* I personally found French extremely offensive and arrogant , they don't have respect for anything that may matter to anyone they just simply don't care."
Racist, hypocrite much? If its people in this country making it racist its people like you.

One can decide.

Dont get emo , no one is teaching you the aboriginal history and dont tell me how many courses you have done - all that matters is what you believe not what you have studied.

Its their rock , they can decide to do whatever they want to do , would you allow me to climb your roof without permission ?

And no, she, me, you or anybody does not have obligation to repect another persons view or culture.

Yes we do , in order to maintain peace between the societies , what you believe in is as important as what an Aboriginals believes in.

Some cultures have some very questionable acts through history. Eg. Alice Springs aboriginal culture allowed for the aboriginal women to be shared around the men for favors, apoligies, tribe friendships. I could write pages of aboriginal stuff that happens to this day I do not respect.

Yes - white Australia policy of 60's can also be discussed which will raise alot of questions.

Mate everyone has done something shameful , the right thing to do is to avoid it and consider positives.

I dont care what you choose to believe in, if you choose to believe it it fine, just dont expect me or anybody else to believe in it also

I dont expect that.

That is my personal experience about French , specially men - there is something in their attitude that does not make sense to me.

I am "Criticizing" their "attitude" not "Them" which is not racist neither hypocrisy.
