French bag India’s largest defence order for fighter jets

.
.
First Indian assemble MKI entered service in 2004, and first full indigenious made MKI entered IAF in year 2010,.
Thus 2017 time-line for all 272 mki to be delevered at the rate of 20 a/c per year is good speed for HAL.
And not to forget the upgradation of remaining and new mki's from 2014 onwards is not bad.

Yeah i intentionally exaggerated it a bit but u will be appalled to know that rate of production of MKIs are 7 per annum at present. Now tell me, does it suck or not ?

EFT is a good jet no doubt. But their costing and pricing is too much for the generation they offer. That's the main problem. If it had been cheaper than Rafale by even 2% in operating cost evaluation, IAF would have thought of it. But Rafale just won it. And you're right; France is much more independent from influences of any other power than the other four.

BTW MRCA was not the first jhatka. It might be the second last in these 5-10 years. First Switzerland rejected them (they got Gripens instead), then the Japanese rejected them (which was obvious since Japan won't say no to uncle Sam). Only after that, MRCA came into the picture. Brazil is the last option. However with their DM in India, he might be wondering whether Rafale is worth the purchase for Brazil or not, considering we performed the most exhaustive evaluation procedure in the history of weapons purchase. :P
