French Army set to launch new 4x4 programme

The French Ministry of Defence's procurement agency, the DGA, is to launch a competition for the acquisition of 358 new 4x4 light multirole protected vehicles for the French Army.

The acquisition, known as the Véhicule Blindé Multi-Rôle Léger (VBMR-L), forms part of the French Army's overarching SCORPION modernisation programme,

Speaking to IHS Jane's the SCORPION programme director at the DGA, Laurent Barraco, said the competition would be launched before the end of the year, with a contract planned to be signed in 2017 and first deliveries expected in 2021.

France is looking to a proven design offering a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 10-12 tonnes to serve as the basis for a vehicle to come in troop transport, command and control, reconnaissance, and electronic warfare versions, Colonel Bernard Rey SCORPION's programme officer at the French Army Staff told IHS Jane's .

EH, oui! The Renault marvel, my own vehicule when serving,
is being replaced. Although the new beast does share some points :

Since this is the Tatra chassis, VAB users will spot the similar engine arrangement
that will sport again that submarine type tunnel accessing the front compartment.
With the shooter to leader dis-embarking ballet surviving to the new era?

Unless it get an auto 12.7 turret . . .

But making it -L as in léger/light will mean a 4 wheel version to reach -15 T.
