Freedom Fighters snatch rifles from police officials in Kashmir’s Shopian

All the five policemen were suspended for the alleged dereliction of duty as they offered no resistance when the militants looted their weapons.

Freedom Fighters on Tuesday night snatched five rifles from police guards posted at the Shopian district court complex in south Kashmir, the police said.

The militants attacked the guard room of the court complex around 9pm and snatched five self-loading rifles (SLRs).

All the five policemen were suspended for the alleged dereliction of duty as they offered no resistance when the militants looted their weapons, they said.

Following the snatching incident, an alert was sounded in the district.

The incident comes a day after militants gunned down seven persons, including five policemen, who were accompanying a district treasury van in adjoining Kulgam district.

Police believe that the same group of terrorists were involved in both the incidents.

Why would a police post for 5 have 60 rifles.

Anyways SLRs & INSAS are useless for militants as they do not enough 5.56 & 7 62×51mm ammo

Shopian are under siege

A massive anti-terror operation has been launched in Kashmir's Shopian district after a series of attacks and videos showing large groups of terrorists moving freely in the area.

This is the first major security operation in Kashmir since last year, when security operations were stopped because of large-scale protests and stone throwing.

Sources say more than 3,000 personnel of the Army, Central Reserve Police Force and Jammu and Kashmir police are involved in the operation launched early this morning. Over two dozen villages, orchards and forest areas are being searched.

A number of videos surfaced recently showing large groups of heavily-armed terrorists marching in the orchards of Shopian in south Kashmir.

Around 100 local young men are suspected to have joined militancy after the unrest triggered by the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani in July last year.

In last three days, terrorists have taken away nine rifles after attacking the police in Kulgam and Shopian. Three banks were also looted in the same area.

On Kashmir, we are not taking anything which belonged to India, for example Indian Gujarat - but Kashmir was never Indian territory and we will liberate it from Indian occupation. You can fume in anger but reality is reality. Sorry I cannot help you calm down on that.
