Newly-appointed Health and Family Welfare Minister Jahid Malek today said the government will soon start the process to extend treatment facilities for elderly people aged above 65 years free of cost.
The minister said this while addressing as the chief guest at the freshers' reception programme and oath taking ceremony of the MBBS students for 2018-19 sessions of Dhaka Medical College, a health ministry release said.
The minister said the government will also work to build the trust of the people over the health sector of the country in a bid to discourage the tendency of the people to seek medical treatment abroad.
Jahid Malek also pledged that initiatives will be taken to establish a specialised cancer hospital in each division and also a 10-bed kidney unit will be set up at every medical college hospital and general hospital across the country.
He then administered the oath to the students of 76th batch of DMCH.
