Newly-appointed Health and Family Welfare Minister Jahid Malek today said the government will soon start the process to extend treatment facilities for elderly people aged above 65 years free of cost.

The minister said this while addressing as the chief guest at the freshers' reception programme and oath taking ceremony of the MBBS students for 2018-19 sessions of Dhaka Medical College, a health ministry release said.

The minister said the government will also work to build the trust of the people over the health sector of the country in a bid to discourage the tendency of the people to seek medical treatment abroad.

Jahid Malek also pledged that initiatives will be taken to establish a specialised cancer hospital in each division and also a 10-bed kidney unit will be set up at every medical college hospital and general hospital across the country.

He then administered the oath to the students of 76th batch of DMCH.

Age limit should be lowered to Sixty...Otherwise i think this is one of the best initiative by your Govt...Which other countries should also take note from..

Btw if possible they should also facilitate kids under the age of 5 under this program...

Certainly it will be one of the best decisions if materialized. I hope the minister can walk to talk. On a side note, The retirement age in BD is around 60 I think so fresh out of work. So I think the govt. assume they will not need any free medical assistance. 65 seems more apt in that case.

This is a start but I would have imagined it being based on the level of income too. For instance, 60+ aged people below a certain income could qualify for free treatment.

Another BAL minister was talking about 4IR or 4th Industrial Revolution. This minister is talking about free medical service to older people. How about naming it another revolution like, say, 4MR (4th Medical Revolution).

However, I believe this 4MR will perhaps be applied only to the BAL activists who have become old.
